Caught a few minutes of the game last night. It was the first time I had ever seen Robert Swift play. I cannot understand why Danny has ever been infatuated with him.  He was Slow and Awkward out there. Ehh.. Biggest guy on the floor and he moved like molasses. I understand he had his ACL tear, but where was any of the stuff that made him a Lottery pick? If the C's had picked him, I think it would have been Jerome Moiso all over again.

Funny that you named the thread Robert Stiff.  One of the commentator yesterday made a mistake and called him Robert Stiff. ;D  Well, not sure if it was a mistake. ;D

I missed when the announcer called him stiff, but he sure looked like it out there. I know Ainge is a fan, but this game has gotta be one of those "What was I thinking?" moments.

Hard to say - is the D new to him so he's tentative and looks slow? Is he not fully in recovered and in game shape? Or does he just stink now?

Also summer league (and the terrible live feed) are not the best avenues for scouting the guy. You'd really have to see practice and get a feel for if he can play 5-10 minutes a game. That's the absolute most he'd play here. (If one of the tech trio - Sheed, KG, Perk - goes down, it will be the other red head, Scal, that plays.) Playing two minutes a quarter is not as physically challenging as starting (and playing starters minutes) in summer league (didn't see the box score so just assuming he started and got minutes.)

Probably he's just a big body that didn't reach his potential - its the most likely explanation and a common NBA story.

I didn't watch.  Did the other team have a true big man out there? (since I know alot of teams play smaller in the summer league)   If not, it would make a slow Swift look even slower.

How in the world was Swift so out of shape? The NBA season only closed two months ago. He must have known he'd have to workout for teams this summer in order to try and get another contract?

If you were picking any of the Celtics big men from last night to possibly contribute this year, it would have to be Nick Fazekas.  That just tells me that Danny better keep looking!  Sweetney looked just as plump as when we last saw him in the League.

I did not see game yesterday. I did see Swift play twice, before knee surgery. He was not slow at all. Of course, injury and added weight could have slowed him down, not to mention lack of conditioning, which is a shame if true.

Agreed. Also, don't forget how quickly the guy got tired out. Even the announcers were all over him for his lack of conditioning.

I thought Swift was much better defensively than Fazekas.  I don't see Fazekas as an NBA player at all.  Slow feet, funny looking shot that takes too long to release.

Kevin Rodgers, on the other hand, looked very solid.

I don't see Fazekas as an NBA player, either, but he looked better than Stiffie last night.  I didn't see much of Rodgers, he must have been in the game when I was out and about. 

The big-picture story from one game, at least:

1. If Swift comes aboard, it's with the idea of him maybe rounding into playing shape oh, about the time that Powe should be ready to contribute
2. Danny better keep scouring for another rotation-caliber big man
3. We better hope that BBD doesn't get a decent contract offer, and comes back here on short money
4. We better not trade Scal until we get this resolved

I watched some of the game.  Swift, at one point, took a baseline fadeaway jumper that was almost put back down his throat by Sutton - I believe.  Swift looked terrible from what I saw.

Swift has hardly played in the NBA.  Hard to judge based on 20m of play.

The people on the instant Robert Stiff bandwagon are probably the same people who want Marbury back....Thinking he needs a little more practice time to hit those wide open shots he was airballing.

When was the last time any big man was impressive in summer league anyway?  It's a glorified pickup game.

You mean the one that hit the backboard, and if it didn't was going to come up about eight feet short of the hoop?  That was one of the worst shots I've seen, ever. 

He did have one nice little lay-in, I think it was a little reverse lay-in, that showed some decent footwork. 

My sincere hope is that it's just rust.  Hopefully, the coaches will tell Pruitt to feed him the ball more down low so we can see his inside game a little better.  Still, I'm just most concerned because he didn't seem to be putting forth a lot of effort (or he just couldn't) getting into position to rebound or to cut off guys driving to the basket.  Just wasn't as active as we need our big men to be, either because he's hurting, or because he's terribly out of shape, or because he wasn't trying.

I don`t know why everybody is so down on Swift. I thought he looked decent. I would like to see all three Swift, Sweetney and Fazekas after 2 months in training room. They are all in terrible condition. Swift looked extremely slow, his lateral quickness is non-existent but he has length to bother shots. I would like to see how he would perform if he was in shape...
