Tony Allen is a better player.

Why in the world are the Celtics interested in CJ Miles? He's shown absolutely nothing. He's a liability defensively, liability on the boards, doesn't pass the ball, and is a weak scorer. What's to like?

I'll admit that I don't have a full range of knowledge about Miles. I feel like he had a starting job in UTH there for the taking and couldn't really grab it.

The little that I have seen him play, he seems sort of timid with no go-to element of his game (ie stroking the three or dribble drive or mid-range pull ups).

If was a decent step up from TA and JR and Walker, etc....a move for him actually would make sense because it would probably be a two or three for one deal and would clear up our log jam at SG and free up a roster spot or two...

I don't know. Maybe some good scouting has Miles targeted as being a player that could do well in our system....

Okay, that wasn't quite fair. Yes, CJ Miles is a liability defensively, a liability on the boards, a weak passer ... but he is a mediocre scorer and has a good jump shot. He has two decent qualities.

However, Miles doesn't come close to earning that contract. He's on the books for another 2-3 years at $3.7 million. Why would anyone be willing to take on that contract? Miles isn't worth it.

There are better players available for a minimum contract.

I assume you are thinking a Matt Barnes type guy, but I think you are undervaluing being able to unlock the jam a SG.

we are looking at 5 or 6 guys whose best position is SG now currently on the roster. We can't really even go out and sign one of those minimum guys right now because we are so overloaded at SG.

I am one of those who thinks that Tony Allen still can contribute, especially on the defensive end.  He will be one year further removed from knee surgery (and ankle injury). I just feel that he will have a role on our team this year. I know I am pretty much in the minority on this opinion.

I think he can contribute, but I do think we need to free up the log jam at SG.

Is there any chance we could get Ronnie Brewer in a deal with Miles?  Maybe Scal, TA and JR for Miles/Brewer?

There is a logjam at the sg position on every team in the NBA.  SG's are a dime a dozen.

As for C.J. Miles, he's a scorer, not a distributor, and he's overpaid. I'd much rather have Ronnie Price.

This "Rumor" probably emerged from the UTAH side. We are trying to dispose our junk not add to it.

...a move you maybe could consider if you didn't have 6 SGs.

Is it the Celtics that have a log jam at shooting guard? How?

well in addition to Ray we have TA, Giddens, Walker, Pruitt, and now Hudson. That's six. Some even say Eddie should be playing SG and that's seven.

I'd call that a logjam...

Ah okay, I don't see that as a problem

Walker and Giddens aren't rotation worthy, they're prospects for the future who are being stashed at the end of the roster. It's likely only one, if any, of Pruitt + Hudson are staying and they'll be the third string PG. That's not a log jam in my book.

Unfortunately, it looks like Eddie will be the backup two, behind Ray Allen, with a new backup small forward being signed, and with Tony Allen being the fifth wing in the rotation. And there's no need for a third string PG if Eddie is at the two.

yeah, i agree with most of that, but I'm not sure we have the luxury of stashing two SGs away. I like them both, but if we could make a move that would net us a player that is at least on their and TAs level with some upside, then it would also free up a rosters spot for another big (something I think could be valuable).

the question in regards to Miles is whether or not he actually is good enough to be even a slight upgrade over TA (or JR or Walker). That I'm not sure about.

I think i would do that deal. I really would like to get rid of TA, and if Pruitt/Giddens arent gonna make the roster or get any playing time then why not trade them too. Miles is a great slasher and finisher, and he also shoots 35.2% from three (not too bad). He averaged 9.1 ppg last year. He is a good athlete and dunker.

However, he does not rebound well at all (2.3 rpg) and is not known for his defense. Also, getting him would probably limit the minutes of Bill Walker (similar size and abilities). I would like to see walker get more minutes, so a player of his skill set may not be the best decision. However, with little other alternative this off season MIles could be a good pick up.

How is it that Pruitt/Giddens have no shot at playing time? House is undersized (but effective) TA played his way out of town but just hasn't left yet... i think that we can get rid of TA to pick up another big man, then let our remaining guards compete for available spots.
