The Mavericks are trying to work out a sign-and-trade with the Raptors for Shawn Marion, according to CBS Sports.
The Raptors either have to renounce Marion (to clear cap space for Hedo Turkoglu's signing) or work out a sign-and-trade, though their reluctance to take back salary has complicated the matter. Jerry Stackhouse would likely be included in any deal, since his $7 million salary is only partially guaranteed for next season. The source cautioned that the deal "may or may not happen" so stay tuned for updates.

Kidd / Jo. Howard / Marion / Nowitzki / Gortat

with a bench of Jason Terry, Berea, Dampier, Matt Carroll is a nice lineup that would IMO challenge the Lakers --- thankfully.

Also has the added benefit of keeping him away from the Cavs and Magic. It's Dice or guys like Bass for the Cavs and Magic if that happens..

Great!  Get Marion back in the West so he can bother Kobe.

It may not strike you, it doesn't me at first but:

- Kidd and Marion.  Both known for their defense.
- Josh Howard is actually a pretty solid perimeter defender
- Gortat is an excellent man-on-man post defender
- Barea is a scrapper/agitator
- Dampier is solid defensively as well

That's not to say that the guys I didn't mention aren't good at D, or that the team will play cohesive defense together, but they certainly have the makings of being a good defensive team personnel wise.
God bless and good night!

If true Dallas might very well contend next year. Adding Marion and Gortat is a pretty significant upgrade to their roster.

Another possibility...if the raptors take on stackhouse and agree to a buyout..he'd make a heckuva backup to Ray

It's not true.

The Raptors can't take on any salary without significantly lowering their offer to Hedo Turkoglu. That $2mil of Stack's contract counts on their cap. Nothing to this rumour.

Excellent point. The only way they can do a sign+trade is like Seattle did with Rashard Lewis, right? Where they don't take anyone back

Which was only possible because Orlando had cap space. If Portland wanted Marion they could do it, but they can just sign him with said space anyways.

Basically they'd have to give something to Oklahoma City to facilitate the deal and take Stackhouse with nothing going to Toronto outside of draft pick compensation.

Portland was exactly my thinking. I wonder if Travis Outlaw is better than Shawn Marion?

They could trade Marion to Orlando in a similar type deal if Orlando wants to keep him away from Cleveland and is willing to give him more than the MLE.
