You guys are mental right?
Tony freakin Allen.
What's wrong with him?
Maybe you guys just haven't seen him play consistently recently due to his injuries, but i've been watching him since his Rookie year and that kid is a crazy defender. He is also a VERY effective slasher, and not a bad mid-range shooter. I don't think he's 6th man material due to his being a guard that can't shoot too well, but 7th or 8th man for sure. He's just had bad luck these past 2.5 years. I don't see him as an 'injury-prone' player exactly, not like Hill.
A lack of basketball intelligence isn't bad luck. It's a fatal flaw for a basketball player.
It amazes me how his defense is consistently overrated on the Internet. He is as vulnerable to an upfake as anyone in the league, in addition to the problems with his attention span on the floor. The guy has six years in the league. It's past time to stop concocting excuses for his continued failures, and come to grips with the fact that Tony Allen is not and never will be a winning NBA basketball player.
We were beyond desperate for quality minutes off the bench in the playoffs, and Allen didn't play. Despite the attempts on the Web to spin that as Doc's fault, it isn't. It's a strong no confidence vote from a coach who's won a championship.
The money Ainge gave him was too much, and it was wasted. Hopefully, he can be moved as an expiring as soon as possible. Get rid of him, Danny. It's past time for Tony Allen to go.
