Wallace just the first step

With Rasheed Wallace committing verbally to sign with the Celtics on July 8th it seems that some of the doom and gloom that was this off season should have passed. Cleveland and Orlando and San Antonio and Los Angeles all seemed to make major moves that put the collective that is rabid Celtic fans into a funk. We needed something done and we needed something big.

Some of us are now happy. Some are very disappointed. And yet some are still stuck in the doom and gloom thinking that Rasheed Wallace's addition is nothing since we have already lost Leon and look to be losing Baby. So, I'm here to tell you to calm down.

Rasheed Wallace's signing is just the beginning and I'm pretty sure we won't see the complete roster of who will be looking to wrest away the Lakers' very dubiously attained title until after the trading deadline. Danny Ainge still has much to do and I believe he has learned from the debacle that was last year's off season. He has learned he can't just add young no talent nobodies to this team and win a title. He needs to add players with definable skills, with definable roles and with real life experience.

So Some might think Rasheed Wallace is a good starting point. Others may not. But know this Rasheed Wallace is just a piece of the off season and maybe regular season puzzle. I am convinced other free agents with skills are on their way. I am convince a trade or two may occur. There's a good chance a bought out vet will be added. All these things could and should happen. Why?

Because there's no way this team goes to war with what they have now and wins. Additions and changes to this bench will occur and, quite frankly, have to occur. I know it. You know it. Wyc knows it. The Big Three know it. Doc knows it. And most of all Danny knows it!!

So fret not Celtic fans Danny is building it and they will come. It just might not be as fast as we all want it to be.

I agree that is the first move of the Celtics offseason. I think that Hill is next. I wish we re-sign Big Baby but I'm not sure it will happen though I don't see San Antonio giving him the full MLE.

And it was the right first step. 


This finally gives the Celtics a true 6th man. 

Now add that 7th man. 

House makes for a good 8th man. 

Davis (if he is back) or a player like Oberto makes for a good 9th man.

Signing Baby only makes sense if there is a great risk of losing KG and/or Sheed to injury next season. Otherwise, he is going to cost too much (double for luxury tax purposes).

What I'm interested in are the moves after Hill or Parker or whoever is going to be the backup wing.

Personally, I'd love to see Flip Murray and Joe Smith added and then trade Tony and Scal for someone of the wing variety ala Andreas Nocioni or someone like that.

Unfortunately, I also think that one of the next shoes to drop will be Robert Swift who I think is a huge stiff, but Danny has always loved him and I think the SL team is just the beginning.

Fortunately, you mean. Swift is a win-win guy. Comes at the cheapest cost, but could potentially be a very nice backup without the injuries.

I think if Hill signs - it is a much better story for both Pruit and House.  A second unit that consists of the three of them, allows

1) house to play off the ball on offense and match up the one on defense
2) pruit to be the secondary ball handler in the front court and a spot up shooter, while matching up on the two on D.
3) hill being the primary facilitator on offense.

I think their backcourt would still be undersized on defense - but they should be able to spread the floor and allow the bigs to have plenty of 1on1 coverage on the block.  Too bad for *POWE* he would have thrived against one on one coverage.  The only concern I have is keeping the bigs at the basket -
