Tim Wakefield was named to the AL All Start team today, the first time in his career.

Tim Wakefield is the text book definition of a team mate.

Well Done Tim, Boston's Lucky To Have Ya!!

talk about a guy who deserves it - great season, incredible career - a true rock of the team - plus an all around good guy who does a ton for the community.  I am a big fan of Wake - next step (hopefully in many many years) is retiring 49 forever

I believe Gandhi is the only person who knew about real democracy — not democracy as the right to go and buy what you want, but democracy as the responsibility to be accountable to everyone around you. Democracy begins with freedom from hunger, freedom from unemployment, freedom from fear, and freedom from hatred.

This was great news today.  I'm really happy for Wake.  I'd love to see him have a 20 win season this year as well.

Hopefully he'll be lights-out at the All-Star game.

Congrats, Wake!!!

Wakefield has had a few very good years with the Redsox.  I dont think he deserved to make the allstar team this year but with 10 wins its hard to argue.  I believe that CC Sabathia should have made the team, I believe he is having a better year than Wakefield, but I am sure that I will not receive much sympathy on that vote.

Also Pedroia should not be starting, Cano is have a better year, and at the very least should be on this team, if not starting over Pedroia.

Damon deserves to be here as well.

Oh well, its a fans vote.

Nice!

I was afraid his last start would weigh against him.  This one had the feel-good snowball effect for a cople of weeks now.  Good to see they hooked him up.  He does about as much as anyone for the community.
Yup

A tip of the hat needs to go to Tampa Bay Devil Rays Manager Joe Maddon.

With 5 Red Sox already on the All Star team (1 more than the next highest) he still picked Wakefield.  Class move Joe, there's a reason why the players truly like playing for you.

Wow, simply awesome!

He and Trot used to be my favorite players on the team back when I started to actually watch a lot of the games (I was raised to be a celts fan first, red sox second and I'm not complaining.)

I always admired the way they went about their business.  I was always strangely put off by Tek getting the C on his jersey because I felt like Wake deserved it too.  Granted I understand the many reasons he didn't.  But I couldn't be happier for Wake.

Congrats, now go kick some butt at the allstar game!

It seems like this guy's been in baseball for like 100 years.

But congrats on your first (!?!)  all-star berth
God bless and good night!

what Troy Brown was to the Patriots

  • I left Indiana. Because it was horrible.
Great to see him get some recognition.  He wasn't as deserving this year as he has been in others, but it's great to see.  A future member of the Sox hall of fame once he retires.  The question becomes - was Wake a good enough teammate and player to have his number retired by the team?  He hasn't put up the numbers for it, but the length of his tenure, and 2 championships, could be the deciding factor.  Same with Varitek, I'd think.
CB Draft Bucks: Chris Paul, Dwight Howard, Tobias Harris, Zach LaVine, Aaron Afflalo, Jeff Green, Donatas Motiejunas, Jarrett Jack, Frank Kaminsky, Lance Stephenson, JaVale McGee, Shane Larkin, Nick Young

DKC Bucks. Also terrible.

From the Sports Network

"Headlining the AL pitching staff is 42-year-old Tim Wakefield, who will make his first All-Star Game appearance in his 17th MLB season. Wakefield, a knuckleballer who recently set a Red Sox record for most career starts, is the second oldest player to make his first All-Star Game appearance to Satchel Paige, who was 46 years old."

Second oldest to only the great Satchel Paige --- an amazing story.

sorry, just wanted to bring this one back around.

Wake deserves all the praise he can get -- even on this exciting night.
