It's interesting that these four HoF players have no rings whereas other players, who're originally earmarked for being *destined to be ringless*... Antoine Walker, Bob MacAdoo, Alonzo Mourning, Rasheed Wallace, Gary Payton, and yes, even Ray Allen, all have rings today by giving up the franchise-to-sub franchise player role.

I believe this is a source of Barkley's mental malaise. He's competing to be the best player w/o a title.

I think in the future, unless either Nash or Nowitzski find themselves as the fourth player of a deep squad, they might end up on that list from this current generation. I think both LeBron and Howard will get theirs, however, in due time.

lets be honest with ourselves

Brian Scalabrine has a championship
Adam Morrison has a championship
Glenn "Big Dog" Robinson has a championship

no player in the league is destined to be ringless

and Payton and Malone tried to get a ring with the Lakers by putting team before self...didn't work out - there's no magic formula for winning a title - having one of the best players in the league sure helps - if they're really tall and skilled even better...

Barkley chased rings. Remember Houston?

Elgin Baylor needs to be added to your squad, he just never could beat the C's  ;D.

I think he was given an honorary ring for being in the first few games of that '71-'72 Lakers squad. So for him, retiring at the beginning of a successful season vs the prior elimination year got him off the Barkley/Ewing roster.

He was never on the roster of a title team. Honorary rings don't count, that'd be like saying Nomar has a World Series ring because he was voted a full playoff share. Exact same situation because he started the year playing for the Red Sox.

Well Greg Kite has got two rings and yes, he's destined to be ringless but someone decided to make him the 8th man off the bench with the best starting five for the decade, sorry to '83 Sixers fans. BTW, the Laker's had the best bench, not starting five for the 80s, that was the key to their success.

It's those, who depict franchise-like player qualities but can't really deliver the goods w/o let's say a huge army of excellent *star level* role players. Pete Maravich, as such a franchise player, was destined to go ringless. Pete Maravich was a franchise player who needed to be the third man (see scoring version of Kukocs) in a triangle offense, nothing else. If his management had figured that out then he might have finished his career with a ring.

So I guess the Elgin Baylor curse really is in effect.

Yup, great great player though. Russell and Jordan really destroyed some era's great players.

It's called the law of averages and someone always gets the short end of the stick. Especially the MJ one. Just like the Kobe and Lebron one about to overtake our era.

Ewing's not a for sure Hall of fame player.  A good player but not in the class of the other 3 unless you listen to the center of the universe NYC press.  I would take the Chief long before Patrick Ewing.

Not sure if I'm misunderstanding, but you realize Ewing IS a Hall of Famer, and Chief is not, right?
God bless and good night!

Dunno if I agree, but I wouldn't want to change a formula that worked.

That is ridiculous.  Ewing not a sure Hall of Fame player???  Come on.  Besides the fact that he was elected in 2008, so he is in fact a hall of fame player, how can you say that for an 11-time all star who had nearly 25,000 points and 12,000 rebounds and was named to the 50 greatest of all time.
Yeah he played in NY so I can see why you don't like him, but a little objectivity please.

Ewing is in the Hall of Fame.
