Here we go again.
Why are fans so blinded as to what is real and what is fantasy in regardss to what players are truly available for someones MLE and LLE?
I've seen posts on here about somehow getting Marion for the MLE or veteran's exemption. Really? Marion isn't even willing to accept the 8+ million offer from Toronto yet he's going to come to the Celtics for the MLE or the LLE (veteran's) and come off the bench?
Now I'm reading about Allen Iverson? REALLY?! You're actually debating about a way to get AI for the MLE or LLE to come off the bench or become a 4th option on the Celtics? AI is going to take the money that STEPHON FREAKIN' MARBURY turned down because he thought it wasn't enough?
Be realistic people. Look at the work they're having to put in just to get Rasheed Wallace to accept the MLE and with all the wooing and players and management meeting him in person he's STILL debating on taking San Antonio's offer instead?
You've got Anthony Parker and Matt Barnes. That's the kind of player you might get for a LLE.
One thing your excluding is the fact that players are reluctant to re-sign with a team that is not a championship contender. Toronto is going nowhere. Lots of players will take a pay cut to try to win a championship or showcase themselves for a season or two.
Marion and AI fit under this category (possibly.) Both of their stocks have dropped off dramatically in the last few years and both need to prove themselves again. Going into this offseason there were/are a lot of good options out there at Small Forward - Artest, Ariza, Hill, Marion, Barnes, Wilcox, Parker. I mean, there is not an abundance of money for all these guys to go around demanding whatever salary they want. With every team that signs someone, that's one less option for these guys.
That being said, I will say again that I don't want AI on this team and I don't believe he would be willing to come here. Marion however I would take in a heartbeat. One year deal, give him a chance to eat up a bunch of minutes off our bench and help us get a championship. Then he can come out next year in the big offseason. His value will be up, he'll have some more bargaining power.
We're allowed to maintain hope, aren't we?
