I have to say that all I know about Robert Swift can be summed up as follows:

1) DA loved him coming out of high school and would likely have drafted him over Al Jefferson had the option been there
2) He's oft injured
3) He had one acceptable season (at least on paper) in 2005-6  when he played 21 MPG and averaged about 6 and 6 with more than a block a game.  Not bad for a guy who was 20 at the time
4) He's still young -- only 23
5) He's listed on Hoopsype as 7'0" and 245;  but listed on nba.com as 7'1" and 270

I can safely say that I've never seen him play.

So, given Danny's affection for him, given that he's on our summer league roster, given that we may very well need a 3rd string 7-footer, and given that we have Clifford Ray, please weigh in on the potential of this being a proverbial low-risk/ high-reward signing (yes, I know he's not signed in the roster-spot sense, but a good showing in the summer could lead to a contract offer).

Please educate me regarding one Robert Swift.  Thank you.

I don't know Swift's current weight, but I know he was forced to shed a lot of weight when he had problems after bulking up.

I have no problem with Swift. He can be the 13th man. A guard can be the 14th man and Leon can be the 15th man.

Now with positions 6th- 12th, sign a good bench.

I always thought he'd be a poor man's Chris Andersen, but I haven't seen enough to make the case for it...I have a gut feeling he makes the team though as our 5th (or 6th) big

Maybe we should ask Ray Allen? When Robert wasn't injured, They played together for two seasons.

I'll try, OP.  When he first came out, he could really assume a low defensive position, for a big.  Almost like a 5 version of the so-called Black Mamba.  He was thin enough to be unusually mobile, for a 7-footer.  He seemed to have a feel for the game.

Then, after a freak knee injury almost the second he was awarded the starting Center job for the Zombie Sonics, now know as the Blunder, he gradually became an immobile guy. He morphed, not for the better.

Maybe he can still rebound.  Maybe he has enough sheer bulk to defend the post.  But on a team that desperately has needed a Center, and that is in the opposite of a "win-now" mode, he has almost never gotten a minute of PT.

If fully healthy ( and that's a big if) he can play. Active rebounder, can run the floor, good shot blocker. If he's not total hobbled he is a player. Would be a good back up or 3 rd center.

The kid's a ginger. Throw some white face paint on him and he'd look just like Ronald McDonold.

Celts need to give this kid a ton of PT in the summer league to see if he's worthy of a roster spot.

Robert Swift 2009-10 = Scot Pollard 2007-08 only without the flashes of talent.

I think he ends up on the team, stays healthy and has a break out year (although a break out year is relative for him).
DKC:  Rockets
CB Draft: Memphis Grizz
Players: Klay Thompson, Jabari Parker, Aaron Gordon
Next 3 picks: 4.14, 4.15, 4.19

Thanks Eeyore -- TP for you for providing info.  Not encouraging that he couldn't get minutes, but perhaps the end of the story hasn't been written.  Is his knee injury something that may require a couple of years for full recovery?  If so, I wonder what the possibility is of rehabbing a career that never really got off the ground.  Hopefully, we'll learn something in the summer league.

TP for the sheer common sense you display.  Instead we'll waste five pages at least on conjecture.  Very nice.

If he is healthy and can earn a roster spot, I have no problem with him as the 5th big man.  He can rebound and has size.
