Let's be clear that Mannix report was BEFORE the Celtic contingency met with Sheed and family today. From Stein's report, it appears that the C's are in good position here.

Wyc, and Danny need to close the deal.

Even so, a starting role in San Antonio could be very tempting if it is the same money compared to coming off the bench in Boston.  The Spurs may tack a 3rd year on as well.

Hopefully we can get this done soon and this doesn't drag out, but I'm still worried the Spurs may swoop in and grab him.

Hopefully we can grab him soon, add a backup SF such as Hill, and resign Marbury.

not sure what to make of this but...

Chris Mannix reports on Sports Tonight that the Spurs have the edge in landing Sheed due to them having a starting position to offer.

51-49% picking the Spurs...

Yikes! I didn't realize SAS was that far in on this...

But wait, if the Spurs sign Sheed, we can just sign Artest. He's not even asking for much. He just wants to be on a winning team. Oh, forgot, Danny snoozed on Artest.

What? You wanted the Celtics to pursue Artest before a big man?

Yup. Best player available. Still in his prime. Gives the other teams match-up nightmares. Don't feel like going over all the reasons right now, but many more arguments by people in this thread: http://forums.celticsblog.com/index.php?topic=29570.0

How do you know? Maybe he was approached and the C's were rebuffed? Or maybe his ballstopping ways and poor shot selection (along with his overall craziness) were enough to scare Danny off.

Artest was interviewed on ESPN tonight. Said the Lakers were the first team that approached him and he was like cool I'm in.

Overall craziness didn't stop the trade for Ricky, the signing of Marbury, or the pursuit of Sheed. Ainge would sign Mike Tyson if he thought he had the skills of Robert Swift.

I dont think Pierce and Artest would mesh well. L.A. got a bargain and this was a great move for them but Artest would never come off the bench for the C's. He's starting in LA, thats the big difference. Artest should be starting in this league anyway. Sheed, on the other hand, is 34 and can take a crunch on his minutes.

Can Tyson guard the pick and roll?

I'm not that high on Artest. He's a solid defender who can play three positions, but he's a disaster on offense. He takes bad shots, forces bad passes, and is overall a black hole.

Plus I don't like playing him at the 4 for extended minutes, which is what we'd be doing with him if he was our 6th man. He's a much better fit for a team that can start him at the three or two.

it wouldn't surprise me if they didn't go after him because pierce was against the idea of bringing him in because there's bad blood between them. quite frankly, i wouldn't hold it against him.

ron ron will crack in the spotlight of LA anyways, just wait for it.

Artest would have picked LA over Boston 99 times out of 100.
