Wow Minny really blew that pick. They should have just taken Curry.

They retain the rights. He will be 21 in 2 years and won't have the buyout problem. It works out well since they drafted a PG at #6 who can get the major PG minutes over the next two years.

This also works out well because the rookie contract only extends for 4 years, so it is advantageous to get the player later and more developed, so that he can really contribute during the 4 years.

I don't think he wants to go to Minny, especially because his family has stated publicly that he doesn't like the cold.

Mind boggling why they didn't pick Curry.

Thanks Sacremento for passing on Rubio and robbing us from watching one of the most entertaining players. Hope you're happy with Tyreke "Drive-By" Evans trying to play the point guard position with a game that resembles Tony Allen, without the vertical.  >:(

What is with these guys from Spain? Rubio being a baby and now Rudy Fernandez crying because the Blazers want Hedo.

Good for Minnie for not trading him.

I actually think it was a good pick for them, and this is probably what they planned on all along.  They couldn't get any wing players worthy of the top 10 at 5 and 6 so they went with the two best point guards left at that point, knowing full well one of them probably wouldn't play for them for at least a couple years.

This way Rubio will gain more value over the next couple of years and they won't even have to pay him.  Even if he doesn't want to play in Minnie after those two years are up, he'll be a strong trade asset.

  • TRANSFORMATION INTO CHAMPION COMPLETE!!!
Screw him, let him play in Europe forever, I am so tired of players trying to dictate the team they will play for. He wants to come to the NBA, it's the highest level of basketball in the world by miles. If he really wants to take this stance fine, just be another good player in a sub par league, respect will never be yours.

Yeah, this is how I feel.  If you want to play, play for the team that drafted you.

The sense of entitlement that some players (::cough cough:: Jennings, Yi, Rubio, Eli Manning, etc.) really irks me. Playing professional sports is a privilege millions of people would gladly trade anything for. The fact that these Edited.  Profanity and masked profanity are against forum rules and may result in discipline.s would try force their way out of an oppurtunity like this because they don't get everything they want is a slap in the face to anyone who's ever had dreams of becoming a professional athlete.

I would fire the Scout(s) for Minn. for this mistake.

Very Poor job of analysis of whether he would have a problem coming to Minn. should he have been selected by them in the draft.

Does anyone in the Front office of these NBA teams do their
homework and back-ground check for Euro players like Rubio

It's not often teams get the luxury to pick back to back
like Minn. had this off season.

What a blown back-to-back pick for Minn.

(2) yrs from now people will look back at the draft list and
say they could have had 'so & so' and boy did they blow it.

Rubio really layed the screws to Minn. for doing this.
Then he'll jump back into the NBA like nothing ever happened
in the Summer of 2009 - onto a different NBA team.

GMs take note, if you are not NY, LA, BOS, or a contender you are likely to get dissed by this Euro.

No problem here for Minnesota. Rubio will be over in two years.
