Leon put his future on the line for the Cs and now it's time to extend him a contract.

How did he put his future on the line for the C's?

he came back early from his knee injury for the playoffs....

Okay, and? I love Leon, I do. I wish there was a way to keep him around. Unfortunately, with a team like this without the time to wait, you have to make tough decisions, and this is one of them and it makes sense. I realize he came back early from his knee injury - a knee he's injured before. By this logic,  by the Celtics even drafting him and giving him a shot, the team was taking a risk. This is a two-way street. We're in the business of winning championships, not giving out handouts.

Leon is a good guy, does charity work and works hard. I get it. Yet, this is the same fan base who boo-ed and mocked Scal endlessly with similar characteristics. Scal, who risked another concussion to come back - if he was in a similar situation, I don't think posters would be pining for his return. Athletes get injured, it's a part of the risk they take. The Celtics owe it to their fans to put the best team on the floor as possible - and with Powe unable to walk, it hinders that ability.

lol this is silly.  you don't sign a player who can't play.

Boston can just wait until he gets healthy.  Are teams lining up to fill a roster spot with a broken leon powe?

Pretty sure his current injury is unrelated anyways. It's the playoffs, if you can play you play. And although he did play hurt, the notion that he sacrificed himself for the Celtics is really of poor taste... he also played for himself.

Props to Powe for stepping up, but let's not make him some sort of martyr.

leon is one of my fav players, hands down.  however, danny is doing the right thing.  he needs to separate himself emotionally, and make the best executive decision.  he cant think with his heart, he needs to think with his head.  leon already has a history of bad knees, and is coming off surgery to repair an injured knee.  there is uncertainty if he can play with the same explosiveness as he did previously.  if not signing powe gives us the extra boost to get better players for our bench, then im for it.  i will miss him greatly, but there is a slight chance he could be back in green.

If DA acted on the emotions of C's fans, Ryan Gomes and Antoine Walker would still be starting on the team.

Looks like they are.  From the article on the front page:

Five teams reportedly called with interest in the power forward after midnight, including Miami, Memphis and Orlando.

well, first of all, I don't agree that signing Leon is somehow not putting together the best team. He is rehabbing and on his way back to playing. and he's already show what he can do as a player.

but add to that, when your big men signing last year were POB and Mikki Moore, I think it makes it hard to claim that you can't sign Leon with such a small window of opportunity...

First off,It's a lot easier to come back from Leon's injury than it was about 10 years ago.So there is a better shot of him coming back a full strenth. Second. I am not upset that they don't resign him HOWEVER I am upset at the way he was told he was gone Doc and Danny sending mixed signals like that is unexceptable.

  • Doc could learn a thing or two from Norman Dale
Leon Powe > Lester Hudson or Gabe Pruitt.  It seems stupid to write him off, rather than to invite him back on a minimum contract.

robert smith doesn't have uncertainty? TA doesn't have uncertainty? Lester Hudson doesn't have uncertainty? JR Giddens doesn't have uncertainty? POB didn't have uncertainty? Mikki Moore didn't have uncertainty?

signing Leon is a GOOD basketball decision. It's only made better by how good a person he is and how hard he worked for the organization.

I thought we were about the playoffs and championships here? Powe in March, April, May and June is what matters. I don't care about the 15th roster spot in November, December, January, and February. Sign him before someone else does.
