I wonder if Fernandez will be asked to be traded if this goes down?

BBD S+T for Fernandez anyone?

That's a rather large contract if I may say so.

Seems a little high, but not egregious.  If Turkoglu keeps playing at the level he showed in the playoffs for the next three years, it's a good deal, and I can see him being that kind of "glue" guy to help everything all come together for Portland.  I would have thought he's worth a bit more than the MLE; maybe $8M or $9M annually, $10m's not too far off.  The five years might be a bit long, but as always in the NBA, five year contracts are basically four years + a year as a valuable trade chip.

What is the MLE amount this year? I've just recently become obsessed with the Celtics.

Not sure the exact amount, but it's probably around $5.5M like it was last year.

I'd certainly give Turkoglu a 5yr/$50M contract before I gave that to Ben Gordon.

Isn't he a small forward?  Isn't Brandon Roy their marquee player and also a small forward?  I mean, I know he can swing over to the two guard but seems like an unnecessary move.  Shouldn't they go after a PG with that money?  Or wait to bid on one of the big time free agents that will be available next year?

He was pretty much playing point-forward for the Magic.  I think of him as more of a 3/4 than a 2/3 because of his size.  He's the player Antoine Walker SHOULD have been.

He's already thirty years old. This would be a poor investment for Portland. Portland needs another perennial all-star wing to pair with Roy, not Turkoglu.

I think Roy plays primarly 2 guard.  He's only about 6'4".

But yeah, totatly agree with you.  My bet is this will be looked at as an unmovable contract in 2 years.  They should be going after Andre Miller and a defense first SF like Artest or Marion.

I think $10-11 million a year is about to be expected with Turkoglu.  The guy was a vital cog in that offense last year and really ran the show.  He puts up some solid numbers and is a solid 2nd star on a team.

Roy at the 2 and Hedu at the 3 is pretty formidable.  I think its a good complement.

turkoglu is one of the most underrated players in the league to be sure. think of him as orlando's version of paul pierce meaning he had to almost everything for his team. Of course, pierce ia better finisher and wing defender. but they are similar players.

Seems that Turk was wise to opt out and pimp himself.  Nicely played.
