With or without the signing of SHEED, I Would love the C's to take a run at Matt Barnes. I was actually hoping they would have signed him last year, but he went to Phoenix instead. He gives you a little of everything; runs the floor well, shoots okay from the 3 pt. line, makes his layups. I am not sure what his defense is like, but he's listed at 6'7'' and is long. 

anyway, I don't think he would costs that much and would be happy to come off the bench for a contender.
Over his career he's averaged 7 pts. 4 rebs. over 20/minutes a game. I think he would be a nice backup for Pierce.

He's high on my list too. However he is a California / west coast guy for sure. I doubt he comes to the north east for team.

I'd still try to get him though.  :)

I love Matt Barnes' game.  He can play the 3 or the 4 and plays good defense on the quicker forwards (Rashard Lewis and company).  He also knocks down some big threes in the team concept, which is perfect to open things up for PP, KG, Sheed, Rondo, etc.  I think he might demand a little more than people are expecting, but if he falls through the cracks and we can get him and Sheed, I would run laps around the garden screaming and celebrating (plus we keep our contracts (TA/Scal) for a dealine deal if need be.

I would also like him over Grant Hill for the energy/non injury factor. Grant's age and injury history scare the hell outta me.

My sentiments exactly.  His defense is indeed good, and he was a key defensive guy for the warriors the year before he played for Phoenix.  Here's what I wrote in a thread yesterday:

He may actually be a west coast guy and wouldn't think of moving east if he gets the same deal from a West Coast team. If memory serves me, he went to UCLA. Everytime, I've seen him play, he exudes 100% effort. I always come away impressed with him and would love to see him in green.

you have to love him in green.  He plays 2 or three postions, shoots well, defends well, has great intensity to match this team, smart guy on rotations, everything.  Not to mention, I don't think his price is going to be WAY our of reach, and if it is, there is a chance of a sign and trade or something.  I am in the same boat wondering why we aren't hearing more rumors about this guy.

I really like Matt Barnes game and he would be a perfect back 2/3.  He cannot however play the four he is pretty thin and not big enough to handle Lewis down low.  

I would love it we could sign him as well as Chris Wilcox who I think is an underated player and would be a good back up for us.

He never seems to have many suitors or maybe it's that he doesn't get a lot of chatter, but I feel like he should have a bunch of teams after him. He's not a limelight type guy, but you gotta love the effort and the results.

I completely disagree.  He is a long 6-7 and played the 4 on a regular basis with PHO.  They went with a small lineup and he fronts the low post well and stretches the D perfectly on the offensive end.  His effort alone allows him to cover larger players, and he is long/athletic enough to get a hand up on Rashard's low post turnaround (his only lost post move).

TP Toinewalka, I totally agree. Rashard is not physical/tough enough in the post to be a ton of trouble for Barnes.

He is a west coast guy but he did play a stint for the 76ers which means he could have a chance of coming back.

James Posey was a half-an-inch taller and our most successful lineup was having him play the four and stretching the D.  Barnes provides a little less bulk and a little more speed/length.  Plus he's a little better creating for himself off the pump fake and dribble.  PERFECT FIT. 

All up to Danny and Matt, but I really don't see this happening.
