Makes a ton of sense with the injury to Yao.

Duh! I still see him as a hustle player. Should be an upgrade on D.

Good move by Houston. If Gortat wants to play a lot of minutes, here's his chance.  Take the money and run.

I think he wants to start, and with Yao out he gets that chance. I would rather have Sheed than him but I think you disagree.

I'd much rather have Gortat because I think he's a young player that would greatly extend the talent and window of our team. I'd maybe say Sheed might be a better fit for one year. But after that he'll keep declining while Gortat will be hitting his prime.

Ge'd be somewhat redundant on our team with Perkins, but with his should issues we can't always count on Perk being in the lineup. Hopefully he can learn to shoot a 10 foot jump shot a little better.

I hope Gortat only signs a one year deal. I'd hate to see him get stuck behind Yao Ming for 3-4 years.

I want Gortat to get a job where he'll be the starter and get 30-35 minutes a night.

He still would get plenty of play time.  I can see Yao becoming a 20-25 minute player in the regular season if he returns (with a few nights off)

Uh, Yao's out, for at LEAST next season.  Not too many places he'll get the chance for minutes than Houston!

Which is why I said I'd be happy to see him sign a one year deal.

What happens if Yao Ming comes back? Gortat heads to the bench and plays 12-18 minutes a night like he was in Orlando. He's too talented a player to be doing that.

I agree that he's too talented but I have a few thoughts.

1)  Perfect fit.  They lost Yao and Dikembe last season, and they need height and talent in the middle in front of their stalky young forwards.
2)  Even if Yao comes back, he will still fit in a little better than some of you are giving him credit for.  Yao plays alongside hustle guys that hover around the paint and try to rebound.  He can do this because they have shooters to kick to our of the double team, and also because Yao can hit outside shots with consistency (a few against the Lakers with his heels on the 3 point line).  That will give Gortat the ability to run that same offense and opperate using hustle in the paint.  He also can D up most 4's to play some minutes alongside Yao.  Great sigining opportunity.

Thoughts?
