Quote
According to the Spanish news Web site Marca.com, the father of new Minnesota Timberwolves point guard Ricky Rubio may remain in Spain for a few more years rather than play in the NBA. According to Esteve Rubio, "Ahora mismo, es muy probable que Ricky se quede uno o dos años en Europa." Translated, it says, "Right now, it is probably that Ricky will remain one or two years in Europe."

Way to go Minn.  Trade Foye and Miller for a guy that doesn't want to go there.

I think this is more of problem with going 5th in the draft, and losing about 1 million in the salary scale. Remember he has to pay out of his pocket to be able to play in the NBA. That 1 million extra he was projecting to get would've really helped him.

He's still very young, so Minnesota doesn't really lose much by letting him go over seas for a couple of years, especially when they drafted another PG.

This is just a scare tactic from Ricky's camp, and I don't blame the kid. Why would Minnesota pick a foreign kid, who has said he doesn't want to play in a small market, and top that off by picking another point guard? Very stupid move from the the Wolves. But you expect that kind of stupidity from that franchise.

I'm all for murdering the wolves, but mabey they took flynn because they knew rubio would force a trade, and are looking to get assets out of him?

IT's been beaten to death that this draft was weak, and rubio and flynn are two of the only potential bright spots. Why not take them both and then trade one of them for established NBA players instead of picking an inferior player at another position from a crappy draft class?

Depending on what happens going forward, i could see this as a good move from MINN.

I think he's going to be a bust anyway but why wouldn't he play in the NBA? He declared and took the challenge time to man up and play.

because he's only 18 and can control where he goes due to the international prestige he has.

If blake could control it, he wouldn't play for the clippers.

Rubio already has a contract waiting for him, unlike players coming out of college. I don't like it, but its a flaw in a flawed system. Plus he's young and dominating his league, If he sits a year (which he wont anyway) he'll still be a hot pick.

Who would want to play for the Clippers?

I don't know. Minny taking PGs back to back makes me think they knew he was not interested in playing for them.

the question is why did they trade Foye to get the pick. did they only find out that he wasn't interested in coming to play for Minny after they traded Foye?

now they are kinda stuck because if they trade Rubio, they need to get something better than Foye and Miller....

Nike would have no problems buying out his contract.

It's his fault for shunning teams in the first place. Memphis likely wanted him.

I don't think he particularly cares.

Unfortunately, do to the flawed nature of the draft, his age, and his international stardom and contract, he can pretty much call his shots with regards to the NBA.

He'll get traded and then Minny will get someone they want in return and Flynn takes the starting PG role...
NBA is a business guys...sometimes it takes more moves

who has something better to offer than what they gave up for the pick (Foye and Miller)?

Makes Minny taking Flynn more understandable. Flynn can be the point guard while Rubio is still in Spain. If he develops, they trade Rubio. If he doesn't they let Flynn go and bring in Rubio.

Minnesota was not going to have a surge into the playoffs this year anyway. They are thinking long term, obvious by the fact that they traded their later picks for future picks.

Kudos to them for getting 2 of the 4 players in the draft with star potential.
