Kirk Hinrich has reportedly told friends he is going to be traded to the Blazers, according to Yahoo! Sports.

Hinrich would be a nice upgrade at point guard for the Blazers and clear the way for Derrick Rose to get all the Bulls' point guard minutes.

Hinrich's contract is terrible.  Why would Portland want to take that on?  Is there any other information about who else would be involved?

I'm not sure how exactly Hinrich would fit in Portland's lineup without being a overpaid backup?

I am assuming they'll be moving Steve Blake and Hinrich will start.

Thats what came to mind but Blake's a much more reasonable and a shorter contract.  Plus, they have Bayless and Rodriguez out there.   This move would not help their cap situation.

Is Hinrich really that much better of an upgrade over Blake when you consider the contracts and terms?

Portland have one of the worst perimeter defenses in the NBA.

Getting a defender of Hinrich's caliber is a major addition for the Blazers.

Good point on defense, Hinrich is marginally better offensively but miles better on the other end.

Looking at Portland's cap situation (although, who knows with ESPN's roster dollars these days), they seem to be setting themselves up alright to work out extensions and be players in FA in the next year.  I just don't know why they'd jeopardize some of that to take on Hinrich.  He's not the guy who's going to put them over the top in the West.  Is it worth taking themselves out of the FA picture to add a guy like Hinrich?  I certainly don't think so.

Hinrich is very very good and just fell out of favor in Chicago.  I think brining him to a new team makes him a lot more valuable and he will be tremendous in Portland next year.

Portland have already taken themselves out of the free agent picture by picking up the team options on Steve Blake's and Travis Outlaw's contracts. That extra $7.6 million, took them out of the running. They pretty much have the MLE (a little more than the MLE) at this point.

I think it was a terrible decision by Portland to do this. But this is Kevin Pritchard these days.

I agree with you also think Hinrich is not the best use of his assets ... but his potential acquisition is a good use of the assets. A good play but not their best play.

This is a good addition for the Blazers.  Steve Blake is the kind of guy who ought to be a backup PG, not a starter.  This way they can have Steve Blake get decent minutes backing up Hinrich and have Hinrich see some minutes at SG as well.

As somebody else pointed out, Hinrich also gives them an upgrade on perimeter defense which is never a bad thing.

Hmmm. Will have to see what the deal is, what Portland is giving up/getting.

I think Hinrich is an upgrade over Blake on both sides of the ball, certainly on defense.

I'd like Portland a lot better if they had drafted Durant over Oden. Hinrich, Roy, Durant, Aldridge, Prysbilla would be a contending line-up for many years to come.

Yeah, it's obvious that Durant is clearly better than Oden.  Portland would be just too good with Durant and Roy.

Okay is gonna be pretty stacked in a year or two with whoever they pick at #3, Westbrook, Green, and Durant.

I would love Hinrich on the Cs.  I think he has a fair contract (3 yrs remaining at about $89M/yr).
