I was also surprised at how openly DA discussed the PGs in the draft in this interview--was not hiding his cards (unless he was lying in his assessments).  Convinces me that the Celts will NOT be acquiring a high draft pick on Thursday.

So heres a question, since my status on the blog is currently Rajon Rondo, what happens if they trade him.  Do i have to go to a grizzlies blog? Is there such a thing?

Yes, so take a hike! ;)

Actually some good reading from the Grizzly fans perspective. Jeff, they sorta gave you some love too. :-\

  • "This is beautiful. What is that? Velvet?"
weei.com says the entire interview should be on-line shorty
"Coach you were 24 and 58 last year, why the playoff talk?"
"Well we made a couple of key trades . . . and we got The Funk."

Good question.  I am at a Leon Powe, what happens if he doesn't come back?!  Gotta make more posts.

Anyone think that a lot of these "rumors" are being blown out of poportion because of the notion of this draft being weak.

i don't know....danny wasn't glowing about rondo just now on the radio...maybe it is to motivate rondo but i think he is shopping rondo

here's the thing though. Callahan obviously doesn't care for Rondo, Dennis likes him a lot.

Cal used Danny not immediately saying Rondo was a top 5 PG as an indication that Danny is not high on Rondo.

but Danny is in contract negotiations with Rondo. How can Danny come out and say Rondo is definitely a top 5 PG and then go into negotiations and say he is not worth Top 5 PG money...

to me everybody (including myself) is going to hear exactly what they want to hear in that interview.

the people who aren't high on Rondo are going to say that Danny actively trying to move him out of town, and the people are high on Rondo are going to say that he is just doing exactly what he should be doing with a young player who has a lot of trade value due to just how good he is...

Hopefully that fact that this draft is horrendous will keep Ainge from trying to acquire a top draft pick in it.

I haven't listened to the interview, but in reading what you guys have written, I just think it's never a good idea to air out the dirty laundry about any of your players while they're still on your team.  Can only hurt their trade value.  I think it's dumb of Danny to speak candidly about Rondo's presumed faults.  Oh well.

As to the rumored deal, I like it, think it's good value for Rondo.

what my ears heard:

-said saving cap space for summer of 2010 a "tough call" since they will likely want to sign FAs this summer that will eat up that space.  Said a sign and trade for one of those guys a more likely scenario, but concluded that most will end up staying with existing teams.

-gave a a somewhat critical assessment of Rondo saying he doesn't play consistently hard enough for Ainge's liking, has to think more about the team than himself as a PG, be less emotional, and his not currently a max guy.  But they "love him".

Sounds like Ainge has a pretty accurate view of Rondo's game.
Coined the CelticsBlog term, "Euromistake."

It's a pretty scary concept to be trading Rondo. I hope that these are true personnel decisions being made, and not just trying to make the older stars happy. I'd hate to trade Rondo for 75 cents on the dollar to make pierce and company happy, not win a title, and have lost out on a perennial all-star, all-defensive point guard.

then Danny basically can't do interviews then because he can't sit there and praise Rondo while he is in contract negotiations.

personally, I think Danny handled it perfectly AND was honest.

he said Rondo needs to play harder more consistently. THAT is the thing that he wants him to work on...not taking possessions off.

but that's part of the maturity process.

let me ask this. did LeBron handle his business properly in the playoffs? or did he show a lot of immaturity?

he basically took the whole rest of the team out of the game holding the ball so much and then when they lost bolted....

is CLE soured on LeBron now or do they recognize that he has a lot of growing up to do?

how about Pierce in that Indiana series when he had that meltdown at the end of game 6 and had that ridiculous press conference with all the bandages on his head. I guess we should have unloaded him right then for being a disruption....

When GMs knock players, it means either they already traded them (not likely) or they are in contract negotiations.  (or the player is a true knucklehead they can't stand)

If a GM wants to trade a player, they praise them as he 2nd coming of ....

But when a GM down plays the importance of a position....

Not really sure what that means.

Danny was conspicuously silent on his opinion of Rubio when asked to list the top PG's in the draft. When they asked him about him, he said he's not ready for the NBA and is a "project." Smokescreen?

Good point.  Though, I'd call the playing down of the PG position part of contract negotiations too.

I also agree with the notion that the Rondo semi-bashing hopefully means that he isn't going to be traded.  I don't know why Ainge would go on record critiquing him and then try to praise him privately in trade negotiations to another GM.  Then again, I often wonder if Ainge lets himself go a little bit too much in interviews.  I don't trust him like I do Theo and Bill B.

I gotta admit, that was a pretty glaring omission when asked about the PGs in the draft.

I also felt like that might be a little gamesmanship....

but I do think this confirms that Danny is pretty high on Evans...not in agreement with him on that one....
