First, let me preface this by saying that I didn't unearth anything earth-shattering, but I found the conversation interesting.  I work in El Segundo, CA, and the Lakers have their workout facility here.  I was in the gym this am (my gym, not the Lakers'), and heard some guy talking to this tall guy with a Laker shirt who was talking about winning a title.

Anyway, I chatted with him - turned out he's Kevin Grevey, ex-NBA player for the Bullets, who's now a Lakers scout.  He's a really nice guy.

I asked him why he wasn't working out at the Lakers' complex and he said that he doesn't because it's the "players sanctuary".

I asked him what he thought of JR Giddens.  He said he's a good player who can probably contribute in the right system (not much insight).

Grevey is a very good friend of Kupchak's, that's how he got the job 9 years ago.

He's out here finalizing draft plans.  Said they have about 10 guys they like, but I didn't pry. (sorry).

Grevey said he was a Celtics fan growing up, and was p---ed at Red Auerbech in 1975, when he passed over Keven for Tom Boswell.

I asked him about the Bullets vs. Celtics in the 82-83 playoffs, and he mentioned winning a game on Frank Johnson's last second shot.  He said he thought they were gonna win that series ... pfft (I just let that go).

Anyway, that's it.  Nothing too special, but it's always fun to chat with an athlete (or ex-athlete).
