I have tickets for Jimmy Buffett Thursday, therefore no one is allowed to talk draft to me til I get home and watch it on Tivo - is there something wrong with that?
Not at all, after the season is over for the Celtics this my favorite day of the year! I would rather watch the draft than the super bowl , unless the Patriots are playing!

I love love love the draft, it seems I'm always on vacation or a concert or something during it - two best draft moments I can remember were realizing PP was going to fall to us and being in disbelief GG fell to us, then being so happy Ainge actually took him - in retrospect one draft moment turned out great, the other umm, a few people want to bring him back...

My favorite draft memory is: I was flying back from Taiwan and the flight had me in the air during the draft, so I asked the flight attendant to ask the pilot if he could some how find out who the Celtics picked.  About 3 hours before landing in Seattle, a flight attendant came up to me and told me, Eric Williams out of Providence College.
sometimes you have to bite your lip, exhale and move on.  So, I have.

We didn't think that the night we traded for Ray either.

Okay, here's the thing though.  Everybody keeps bringing up the Ray trade as an example of a time when nobody expected something to happen and it did.  The implication is that just because there aren't any credible trade rumors lately and it's been quiet, it's still possible that Danny will pull a major move (out of you know where) like he's done in the past.

The major problem with that comparison is this: our team sucked back then.  There was a good reason to make an unexpected major trade that moved a lot of our pieces for other big names.

Right now our starting lineup is great.  Our team is very solid.  All we need is a solid bench and we have a really good shot at a championship.  The need for major moves is just not there.  The only worry for our team at the moment is whether our best players can stay healthy and if our team is going to be bad after they retire.

The thing is, though, any major change to our starting lineup at this point is liable to make us worse RIGHT NOW, even if it might make us better a few years down the road.  But that defeats the purpose of making the trade anyway, because we waste the window we have now in the hopes of making our team still a decent playoff team in the future (but probably not a contender).

So why make major moves that carry as much risk as potential reward?  Why do that when your team is already good?  Why fix what isn't broken?  Unless Danny can put together a trade he simply can't refuse - like getting a superstar franchise player who will be with us for years to come - then I don't see why he would do it.  There are okay trade ideas out there, but all of them split up our starting 5 and only have at best a 75% chance of making our team better.

That's an excellent post that conveys my feelings about these trade rumors/ideas perfectly. TP.
Grab a few boards, keep the TO's under 14, close out on shooters and we'll win.

There were trade rumors all day, like Big Al for JO (which I remember specifically). It wasn't much of a surprise...

i'd like to see them trade up into the early second and take green, ellington or a wing. then later we can package up TA, scal and giddens and a 1st for a player looking to be dumped by a loser.

Yeah, I wouldn't be at all surprised if we made a trade with Portland for one of their earlier 2nd rounders.

i think the celtics pick with their second round pick...prolly a PG or some length...they then move on to free agency and decide what to do with pruitt and baby...i would love to see tony and scal in a package for a solid bench...i would take jones and also a mdyess

This would be my ideal offseason.

Buy the 21st pick, select tyler hansborough.

Sign Dahntay Jones to the LLE
Sign Antonio Mcdyess to the MLE

Resign Marbury
       BBD
       Pruitt

Let Powe and Moore go.
Cut Giddens

Keep TA and Scal to trade at the trade deadline, i think they'll have more value then.

Rondo/Marbury/Pruitt
Allen/House/Walker
Pierce/Jones/Allen
Garnett/BBD/Scalibrine
Perkins/Mcdyess/Hansborough

McDyess is nice but if we're going to keep BBD I'd much rather we get a guy with a bit more size (ideally).  Also, I think I'd be happier if we signed Hill to the LLE and signed Quinton Ross to the vet. minimum.  But Jones and McDyess wouldn't be a bad offseason per se.

I feel like theres little chance we pry hill from Pheonix. I think Mcdyess would be enough size. I think zaza is out of our price range, and no one else comes to mind as a good back up

I think I might take up rooting hockey if the Celts got Hansborough.  I am serious.

I think a lot of people are missing the opportunity that we have if the owners are willing. If they are OK with spending, we can get a lot of talent to extend our window considerably by taking contracts that teams don't want because they would rather rebuild. I'm not talking about bad contracts, but contracts that don't fit the plans of teams.

The Detroit rumor is a great example of this.

I honestly think if we make 0 trades, we will win the championship next season.
