All is quiet, there hasn't been alot of rumors over the past couple of day involving the Celtics. If I remember right it was the same way just before the draft when we acquired Ray and then the other"shoe" KG. I think something big is about to happen come Thursday. I think it is going to involve Ray and more than likely Rajon.
As much as I don't want to trade Ray, I think we will and should it is better to get something in return rather then letting him expire. I do not see us resigning him at his age and I do not see him taking a substantial pay cut, So I think we should trade him well he is still valuable as a player and a expiring contract. As for Rajon, I leave that decision for Danny and company.I don't want to lose him either but if we can win now and preserve the future, I am all for trading who ever it takes(well except for Toine LOL). So I am look at this as " The Calm Before The Storm"

What do you all think?

Let's just trade our starting 5 so we can have a hurricane ;D

It has been a long time now since Danny has made a trade (not including the ones for the protected 2nd round picks) so maybe he's due.

Whatever that deal might be, it'd be good for the Celtics.

  • Let's Go Celtics
My approach for this draft is no news is good news.  I'd like one more run with this roster.  The Celts were criticized for not getting value for the original Big 3 and having them spend the end of their careers with the team.  I think that even without trading Ray we can get value for him when he leaves in the form of the money coming off the books for him after next season.  We'll still have a great core and free agents will definitely want to come here to win a championship, especially after we bring home #18 with Ray next season.  ;)
"Take this down," said O'Neal. "My name is Shaquille O'Neal and Paul Pierce is the (expletive) truth. Quote me on that and don't take nothing out. I knew he could play, but I didn't know he could play like this. Paul Pierce is the truth."

I have tickets for Jimmy Buffett Thursday, therefore no one is allowed to talk draft to me til I get home and watch it on Tivo - is there something wrong with that?

Not at all, after the season is over for the Celtics this my favorite day of the year! I would rather watch the draft than the super bowl , unless the Patriots are playing!

I think you're going to be disappointed on draft night.  I'm not saying nothing is going to happen, but nothing as major as you seem to think.

I love love love the draft, it seems I'm always on vacation or a concert or something during it - two best draft moments I can remember were realizing PP was going to fall to us and being in disbelief GG fell to us, then being so happy Ainge actually took him - in retrospect one draft moment turned out great, the other umm, a few people want to bring him back...

We didn't think that the night we traded for Ray either.

Okay, here's the thing though.  Everybody keeps bringing up the Ray trade as an example of a time when nobody expected something to happen and it did.  The implication is that just because there aren't any credible trade rumors lately and it's been quiet, it's still possible that Danny will pull a major move (out of you know where) like he's done in the past.

The major problem with that comparison is this: our team sucked back then.  There was a good reason to make an unexpected major trade that moved a lot of our pieces for other big names.

Right now our starting lineup is great.  Our team is very solid.  All we need is a solid bench and we have a really good shot at a championship.  The need for major moves is just not there.  The only worry for our team at the moment is whether our best players can stay healthy and if our team is going to be bad after they retire.

The thing is, though, any major change to our starting lineup at this point is liable to make us worse RIGHT NOW, even if it might make us better a few years down the road.  But that defeats the purpose of making the trade anyway, because we waste the window we have now in the hopes of making our team still a decent playoff team in the future (but probably not a contender).

So why make major moves that carry as much risk as potential reward?  Why do that when your team is already good?  Why fix what isn't broken?  Unless Danny can put together a trade he simply can't refuse - like getting a superstar franchise player who will be with us for years to come - then I don't see why he would do it.  There are okay trade ideas out there, but all of them split up our starting 5 and only have at best a 75% chance of making our team better.
