Chris Lofton says he wants to join the Celtics Summer League team. Do u guys want this or not?

I mean he is an amazing 3 ball shooter and he did great in Tennessee. He also had a few forty point games and one 60 point game in Turkey.

But when he was in the summer league before he only averaged 2.3 ppg. He also didnt go straight to the NBA does this mean he didnt think he could do well in the NBA?

I think he would kind of be like and Eddie House off the bench. He can really only shoot the three but he can shoot the lights out.  ;D

So what do you guys think?

Well his 2.3 ppg average is explained by his lack of playing time. And his lack of playing time is explained by the fact that Denver had draft picks and other young players already on their roster that they were more interested in developing and the fact the Chris was still not in playing shape at that point.

To say he can only shoot the three though? That is very untrue. Up until his senior season when he was fighting though cancer he was a very capable scorer from any spot on the floor and had an uncanny knack for finishing in traffic for his size. I think his 3 point shooting is extremely comparable to Eddie's but he would not be as big of a defensive liability as he is a pretty pesky defender and can force turnovers. He averaged 1.5 steals a game this year and had 6 in one game.

As far as non basketball, this is the type of guy we need in the NBA. He is a class act (his hometown is just a few miles from mine). He always gives back to his community I mean I can't say enough about this guy. I'm probably a little biased just because he's from my area but he truly is a great player and I would love to see him come in a contribute to my Celtics.

Yeah, I loved Chris Lofton while he was at Tennessee. I'd be all for him playing for the Summer League team--in fact, I'd take him over Giddens on the roster.
Grab a few boards, keep the TO's under 14, close out on shooters and we'll win.

I think that with his 3P-shoot, if he also can defende and run the point decently, he can be a good complement from the bench after Rondo, who will not leave many minutes for any other point guard in our roster. Obviosly, if we will sign him, Pruitt would become instantly a trade asset

I think the word you are looking for is expendable. Pruitt is not an asset.

Will he and Rondo get along? I mean even in that video posted above (TP btw because that video had the following:) Rondo kicked Lofton in the face on an AND1 play.

I'm just joking of course I'm sure they'd get along. It was pretty awesome to see the video of Rondo kicking lofton since I have a picture of it on my computer.

Looks like he was practicing for the NBA 3 back in college...he was waaay beyond the line in most of those shots. If he keeps that up in the NBA then maybe there wouldn't be as many toe on the line 3's any more (with reference to Eddie in the finals).

EDIT: Just checked his wiki (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chris_Lofton).
His two highest scoring games in Turkey he hit 13/20 3-PT for 47 points and then 17/22 3-PT for 61 points. That's insane! Does anyone know if they use NBA size 3-PT line over there?

Euro three is similar to the new college three. So, its a little shorter. But he was hitting from a step inside half court in that vid so he shouldnt have a problem

I enjoyed watching Lofton at Tennessee in college. The SEC has a decent level of competition and most of the better players are well prepared for the NBA. OTOH Rondo handled him pretty easily in their matchup(s)if memory serves.

I am not sure he is good enough to play in the NBA after his health issues, how close is he to being fully recovered? I know he can shoot well, is a decent defender and ball handler.

Summer league is the place to find out if he is worth inviting to camp.

Agreed.  I hope for his sake that he catches on somewhere in the NBA, and if he is good enough for the Cs, then great.
Celtics fan for life.

Well Rondo is now a top 10 PG in the NBA, so I don't think that necessarily means he can't make a contribution at the NBA level.

Didn't ever see him play much though.
