Celtics guard Ray Allen has expressed a desire for a contract extension, league executives say, but that isn’t happening in Boston.

I wonder where this  news comes from ?

TP for  PollardsSpartanBeard for posting this in another thread.

If it's true that he isn't going to get an extension in boston does that mean he will be traded this off season?

I still think the C's are going to try and make a trade for Amare Stoudemire. Why else would they be entertaining the idea of trading Ray Allen for a high draft pick. It would make sense only if they swung that draft pick and expiring contracts they get back for Ray and send them to Phoenix for Stoudemire.

I hope he's thinking extension starting at 8 or 10 mill. If not, sorry Ray your good, but not good enough to make us handcuff our payroll.

I red somewhere last season that he want to retire as a Celtic, and he is about to take (if we want to keep him) a contract of 6-7 mill. for something like 3 years, I think we can afford 20-22 mill. for 3 more years of Ray-Ray. He also said that he has no problems to come of the bench and step aside from young players way. That's a great player and a real pro. I have a lotta respect for him, and I'm glad to have him on my team.

I'd rather pay Rondo 10 million a yr for his prime years than pay Ray that amount for his late thirties years.  Of course Ray "wants" an extension though. I want 100 million dollars and a super model woman.

Well, it's no surprise that Ray wants an extension, he enjoys playing for the Celtics and hopefully he'll retire as a Celtic. Maybe he wants an extension now to ensure that the management won't trade him this year... I hope they won't commit such an error. But it's the only explanation to me of Ray's will to get an extension now, because otherwise it would be more logical for him to wait next summer and re-sign with Boston on a cheaper contract.

That would be awesome if it were true.

What has Michael Finley made the past few years? I think his salary would be a fair comp for Ray Allen. Ray Allen will be 35 next Summer when his contract expires.

Not sure about Finley , but Reggie Millers last 3 seasons he made 5 MIL, 5 MIL and 6 MIL

I would say thats about what Ray should make if he signs an extension here.

What's interesting is that if the Cs extend him for that, not only will he be a bargain next year, but his contract would still be a valuable trading chip this year -- whichever team traded for him wouldn't get the full $18M off the books next year, but would instead get $13M off the books, plus a super cheap All Star ....

Ray is looking for his last big contract.  Not a big shock here.
