if true, how did Memphis turn this down???

Are there any potential trades scenarios that have gone underreported?

Sure. The New Jersey Nets are said to be willing to part with point guard Devin Harris. The Griz should ponder if Harris is worth the second pick.

Sounds strange. But that scenario sums up the Grizzlies' draft one week out: Expect the unexpected.

I call B.S., I think they are trying to drive the price up.

If I was Memphis I probably would of done that, don't know how Harris and Mayo would gel in the backcourt.  Not enough ball to go around.

Just read this, I don't believe it either. Why would a franchise trade their best player and franchise's future for the #2 pick in what one NBA executive called the worst draft in decades?

Then again, I've been asking myself why there are rumors floating that we want to trade major pieces of our starting rotation for that pick, so I think it's a load of garbage as well. Chris Wallace is simply trying (and failing) to drive up the price of the #2 pick.

Yeah, that makes no sense unless something pretty good was going back to NJ along with the #2.  Harris for Mayo and the #2, maybe?  That, I can see as an offer.

well, memphis is kinda screwed. They should clearly pick rubio, he's the only other kid aside from blake that seems like an A+ talent potential wise, but rubio doesnt want to play for them.

With it being such a weak draft, i dont think they can justify taking thbeet. I would be trying to move the pick too.

  • Rondo = Good
New Jersey would have to be insane to do that.  Trade a young All-Star point guard who's not even reached his prime yet for a high pick in a weak draft?  Yeah, right.

That would make Mike Conley a lot less important if he didn't go back to NJ

Memphis is trading the #2 and serious cap relief in this scenario, not just the #2.

Memphis is well under the cap, why would they want more relief?

Yeah, I think Harris and Rondo would both have similar value, and I don't think either team would take back just the #2 pick for them.  However, if they throw in another young star in the making like Mayo or Gay, and suddenly it makes much more sense.

Another possibility is that NJ is interested in a larger deal, where they turn Harris and Carter into a ton of cap space next summer, and a couple young assets.  So they would use the #2 pick to try to move Carter, and get some asset(s) back for him.

It's an interesting idea for the Nets, who are trying to rebuild.  It'd be a horrible deal for us, who are trying to win a title next year.  The last thing we need is a rookie instead of Rondo.

I think you missunderstood - Memphis is trading serious cap relief and the #2 for Devin Harris.

The cap relief is an asset going from Memphis to NJ - NJ would have a $25 million dollar payroll next summer if this went through. Apparently they are having trouble moving Carter.

Normally I would say no way Memphis would make a deal like that, but then again, it is Memphis. I would hope that Memphis would receive more back than just Harris. Sure, he's a great point guard but I really think Mayo will be a star soon. Maybe Mayo, Conley, #2 for Harris, Yi and some fillers?
