Anyone just watch Kobe on the Tonight Show?

I'm someone who despises the Lakers and not necessarily Kobe.  I'm not really a Kobe fan, but I don't absolutely hate him with all my might like alot of other Celtics fans.

Overall, I thought he was pretty good...but was that a legitimate attempt at a Boston accent that he did at the end of the interview?  Kobe was saying to Conan that he understood he was from Boston, but he wasn't going to hold it against him since moving to LA.

The way he said "Boston"...it was more like "Bahston".  Now I've lived in Mass my entire life, 35 minutes outside of the city my entire life, and I don't have a boston accent.  Is that really how people around here say "Boston"..."Bahston"?  Cause I didn't think so.  Dumb Kobe.

That's how some people say it, like a lot of T conductors.

Some people - mostly blue collar workers around here, do have a thick accent - and that's the stereo type Bahston has around the country... same with cah (car).

I get that "you don't sound like your from Boston" stuff a lot, it's regional but pretty common in Southy.  Sometimes it slips out when I'm drunk :)

To weigh in on this Boston accent thing..."Boston" is pronouned more like "Bawston" than "Bahston" with an accent.  People make this mistake alot....it's more generic, or more common, to pronounce the short "O" sound like "ah".

For example:

Most people say: "Gahd" for God.
Whereas Bostonians say: "Gawd" for God.

Trust me, I've heard 'em all, and growing up with parents and relatives with rediculous Boston accents has helped me figure this out.
