While plenty of media outlets are speculating about a potential deal between Cleveland and Phoenix, we’ve heard some talk of a possible trade between Cleveland and Washington actually. The deal would essentially be a cost-cutting move for the Wizards, sending Antawn Jamison and filler (Mike James) to the Cavs for Ben Wallace and Sasha Pavlovic. Wallace seems likely to retire, and Pavlovic is on a non-guaranteed contract for next season. It’s not clear whether the Wizards would need to surrender the #5 pick. Jamison is attractive to the Cavs since he’s exactly the type of combo forward they were missing to match up with Orlando’s Rashard Lewis and Hedo Turkoglu.

I think this trade would actually help the Cavs a lot more than Shaq would...

Jamison's got two to three solid years of basketball left. He's a nice contributor on the offensive end, though he doesn't like to pass the rock much. If Cleveland were to make this trade and play Jamison at the four, the team would be extremely undersized. All in all, I don't know if it's a better move for the Cavs. It certainly won't arouse the excitement that a trade for the Big Cactus would.

Jamison is an excellent player.

However, this move would kill any chance the Cavs have of adding another free agent superstar next to Lebron, I believe.

exactly which is why I can't see them doing it unless they also get #5 in the draft.

Yeah I think they'd sacrifice the prospect of LeBron and Wade/Bosh/Amar'e for that package if they are high on a player. But that depends on your draft board. Some years you get a Bosh, others you get a Yi....

I like Jamison but I don't see this being a huge difference maker for them. Jamison isn't really the low post, back to the basket player the Cavs should be looking for.

This trade makes no sense at all for the Wizards, and couldn't possibly include their 5th pick.  First the owner loves Jamison and second if they trade a true 20 and 9 guy for essentially nothing, fans would go crazy.  Jamison is a perimeter forward who has a knack for getting rebounds and shooting 3s.  Not strong on defense.  He's an excellent offensive player.

but why would WASH add in the #5 pick?

Jamisons contract actually isn't even that bad. He gets 11 mil next year and then is only on the book for two more years (13 and 15 mil). considering his production level, that's a pretty good contract.

it's only a good contract for a team that won't have cap room in those seasons anyway

Just MO, but I don't believe James needs a 34 y/o F with 3-4 years left on his contract. He needs a 25-ish all star to grow with. Ferry tried to sell Williams as that guy, but he's not at that level.

Jamison doesn't make any sense to me.

Yeah.  The Cavs have their #1 guy (LeBron) and their #3 guy (Mo Williams), but they need a #2 guy, a right hand man, preferably a low post presence.  If they can get that kinda guy, then they'll have a great team.

Jamison could be the #2 guy for a couple years, but not into the future (he's too old) and he also doesn't really give the Cavs what they need most.

Honestly I think the Cavs need a Boozer type guy but they obviously don't have the cap room to get him (ironically Boozer used to be on the Cavs).

Didn't Washington sign Arenas to a big contract even though he's been injured because they didn't want to break up their core? Having made that investment, I don't see them using a top 5 pick to unload a near all-star player.

Rasheed would cost then much less and help them just as much IMO.

Washington should be able to do better than this...why in heck would they also give up the #5 pick when they are already giving up the only player of substance? Jamison is a very good player and yeah, he has a couple of years left on his contract, but I imagine some team would be happy just to trade an expiring for him, expecting no draft pick in return. I would be pretty mad if this happened...

But if you are the Cavs and you may lose Lebron after this season, you do this deal, simply for the #5 pick. Trading garbage for two REALLY good pieces at least ensures the Cavs aren't in the crapper if and when Lebron leaves next year.
