  • Eagerly Awaiting the Next Fantasy Draft
Tyrese Rice has no chance in the league. And, the Celtics should not think for one second about drafting him. If they are going to take a flyer on a "local" kid with their second round pick, look no farther than 6-9 Tony Gaffney out of UMass and a Berkley, Mass. native. He is an energy guy who has improved significantly over the last two years and has been impressive at his workouts with NBA teams.

Unfortunately, Gaffney will probably be gone well before the C's pick -- at least according to Hoopsworld -- UMass forward Tony Gaffney has blown a few teams away with workouts, word is the Milwaukee Bucks had a long interview with Gaffney and he could be their man in the 2nd round. The odds Tony can jockey himself into the first round are slim, but the odds he's not drafted in two weeks now seem remote, the question for Gaffney is can he break into the 30's.

Over at ESPN, Chard Forde, however, has Gaffney as the 73rd best player. So who knows.
That is absurd you clearly went to Umass. Gaffney is good but Rice was one of the top players in a top 2 league in the country. How can you just dismiss Ty in one sentence saying he has no chance in the league without explanation. Then try to change the topic of the thread to Gaffney.

BC is Boston College Hardlyyarley

Is that Bentley or Babson?

Bentley's actually BU now.  Made the big jump to university status this past year.

is rice really going so low? he was projected low 1st, high 2nd in last year's draft (if he came out early.)

I see him as a House type - with some better strengths (creating his own shots, ball handling, passing) but not as good a 3pt threat. He did jack them up from deep in college though.

A gaffney thread! Great! I love Tony Gaffney. Look, I watched most of Tony's games when he was at Somerset high. I've never seen a kid dominate a game the way I saw Tony do it (albeit it wasn't even division I). Nevertheless, His defense was other worldly, and his passing ability was extraordinary. But let's be real here: Tony is not 6'9". He is 6'7" at best. And although I've never measured his wingspan, he probably has a massive one. But that still won't help him much at the next level. He will be too slow and too small to play the small/power forward. His offensive game lacks big time. He could only be a garbage player. But let's make this clear: The harsh reality is that he'll never play in the NBA, although I'd love to see him there.

I have been looking at a ton of mock drafts and with the exception of two, T-Rice isn't predicted to go in either round.

This doesn't surprise me one bit (and I am a big BC fan)

  • Welcome to the Loud House
Why not Paul Harris?

He is one of those Gerald Green types. Raw athleticism that can be further coached. Ranked one of the best prospects out of high school, he never lived up to the hype at SU, but still almost averaged a double-double last year. People think that Jim Boeheim rode him too much, and I think Doc would be the change of pace that would put him on the right track. Tremendous rebounder, decent man defender, good free throw shooter, and great finisher. However, his shot is spotty, and his ball handling is suspect. But he could be an athletic 2 guard for the 58th pick.

I'd rather take a flyer on him than Tyrese Rice, who played in a very weak top to bottom ACC. Harris has big game experience, and played in the toughest conference in america last year.
