if he drops do we take a flyer on him? or if he goes undrafted do we bring him into camp?  He sort of reminds me of Aaron Brooks, but better D and a little slower

AAAND

Draft express has this tidbit:

"Best Case: Bobby Jackson
Worst Case: Will Solomon"

I mean c'mon, worst case, he's a future Hall of Famer, that's pretty amazing stuff right there

I just graduated from BC last month here are my thoughts on him. Great ball handler, lightning quick perfect for an uptempo team. Good passer good shooter, doesn't play the greatest defense. Will be a spark plug off the bench nba player. If he goes undrafted we should certainly bring him in.
DKC:  Rockets
CB Draft: Memphis Grizz

I was getting on to say no way to T-Rice, I think BC will be a better "team" without him, but.........but if we are talking Will Solomon the question immediately becomes:

"How far will Danny trade up for him?"
sometimes you have to bite your lip, exhale and move on.  So, I have.

Loved watching him play in college, however, I don't think he'll amount to much at the professional level, at least the NBA.

As a BC grad, though, I hope I'm wrong.  Always nice to see an Eagle do well in the pros.

I'm a BC student, so I'm biased.

That said, I think we could do much worse than to draft one of the top talents from the ACC at 58 or bringing him in if he goes undrafted.  I mean, come on, who else are we gonna take at 58?  Probably some guy who will never play.  I think taking Rice at 58 wouldn't be a terrible idea.  I actually wouldn't be surprised if he turns out to be a contributor sooner than Pruitt or Giddens - at one point he was considered a 1st round talent.

Rice is probably at best a solid backup PG with scoring ability, and will probably need some time to develop into that role.  But I think he has shown that he definitely has the talent (scoring big against UNC on numerous occasions, leading the Eagles for most of his time at BC, being a top ACC talent, etc).

P.S. It's cool that there are so many BC students / alums on the blog.

i almost started a thread like this the other day. i would not trade up for him, but if he is there in round two and falls in the c's laps, i would be thrilled with this pick. talk about a guy with nba range from day one.

Rice will not get drafted. He'd be lucky if he gets invited to a teams camp. Not going to be alot of takers for a short PG that's not a good PG. Unless he can shoot in like House in the NBA he's better off going overseas.

you are probably correct.

but hey, if ainge can make local BC folks happy by inviting him to camp, then he is worth a look.

He can shoot similar to House (obviously not completely as good but he's still a great shooter), last year he was constantly being doubled so didn't get off an easy shot. His ceiling is Eddie was good ball handling skills great court vision, he's probably faster than House too.

Tyrese Rice has no chance in the league. And, the Celtics should not think for one second about drafting him. If they are going to take a flyer on a "local" kid with their second round pick, look no farther than 6-9 Tony Gaffney out of UMass and a Berkley, Mass. native. He is an energy guy who has improved significantly over the last two years and has been impressive at his workouts with NBA teams.

Unfortunately, Gaffney will probably be gone well before the C's pick -- at least according to Hoopsworld -- UMass forward Tony Gaffney has blown a few teams away with workouts, word is the Milwaukee Bucks had a long interview with Gaffney and he could be their man in the 2nd round. The odds Tony can jockey himself into the first round are slim, but the odds he's not drafted in two weeks now seem remote, the question for Gaffney is can he break into the 30's.

Over at ESPN, Chard Forde, however, has Gaffney as the 73rd best player. So who knows.

It doesn't even really matter who we take at the 58 because they're probably never going to play.  I'll say again...I think we don't risk much by taking Rice, though he'll probably go undrafted anyway so we could at least check him out over the summer.
