1. Trade Scal and Tony Allen for DeSagana Diop (Charlotte does it to shed salary)

2. Give BBD the qualifying offer. If another team offers him a contract no more than 3 years 10-12 million let him go. Otherwise, match.

3. If BBD isn't staying offer McDyess LLE.

4. Split MLE on Ime Udoka and Starbury.

5. If Starbury goes to another team, sign Brevin Knight or Anthony Carter for minimum.

6. With the 58th pick, get Goran Suton or Josh Heytvelt.

7. Sign Leon Powe to min contract

That gives us this team:

Rondo/Marbury or another FA
Allen/House/Giddens
Pierce/Udoka/Walker
Garnett/BBD or McDyess/Powe
Perkins/Diop/Suton or Heytvelt

What do you guys think? Is this realistic? Can this team win the title next year?

I like this team because it's so defensive oriented. The only problem is that the bench doesn't have a lot of scorers.

  • Rondo = Good
It's not terrible, but far from ideal.  That gives us a decent bench but nobody who is really a game changer, except Eddie House when he's on a hot streak.  I think I'd especially prefer to see someone with a bit more impact than Udoka, who is good defensively but anemic on offense.  We could do worse, though.

Diop is good on defense and not very useful on offense, but I have no problem with that in a backup C.

So if this were our off season, I wouldn't feel terrible, but I wouldn't feel super confident either.

  • You ain't the boss of the freakin' bedclothes.
I have the feeling we'll pick up a better option than Ime Udoka as a wing player (Ime Udoka, BTW, is probably the guy I have lobbied hardest for beginning in summer 2007). Our inability to create our own shot without Rondo, and esp without Pierce or Allen was highlighted pretty blatantly.

It could be a player like Von Wafer or something, but I believe we're going to pickup a guy that can create his own shot, mostly because we have to.

Some low risk high reward options at PG

Shaun Livingston (can he still play)
Steve Francis (same as above)
Jason Hart-good option I think

At the wings in this order

Hermann,Barnes, Hill, or Outlaw Tim Thomas via trade (not assuming Marion would bite for MLE but if he did....wow)

I like Dice as a big man.
