... just kidding.  Scal does *by far* more charity work than any other player on the team, at least from what I've seen:

Quote
Boston Celtics [team stats] forward Brian Scalabrine visited 25 eighth-graders from Rogers Middle School in Hyde Park [for a pizza party] after their second-place finish in the tenth annual ASSISTS community service contest.

The students collected more than 3,500 cans of food for the Hyde Park Food Pantry, as well as 75 toys for children at the Home for Little Wanderers. A group of 16 eighth-graders from The Harbor School in Dorchester won the first place spot and earned a trip to Washington, D.C., courtesy of Southwest Airlines.

That follows on:

Quote
Tim Wakefield, Jason Varitek, and several of their Sox teammates used their off day to raise serious dough for the Pitching in for Kids Foundation, which benefits hospitalized children and their families in New England. The gang gathered last night for a hand or two of high-stakes poker at Faneuil Hall Marketplace, where a slew of other celebs were expected, including high-seas hero Captain Richard Phillips, Pats coach Bill Belichick, "Mad Fisherman" Charlie Moore, Celtic Brian Scalabrine, chef Todd English, and Miss Massachusetts International Ashley Herron.

... and this from last year:

Quote
For five years, Boston Celtics' forward Brian Scalabrine has come back to the Seeds of Peace camp on the shores of Pleasant Lake in rural Oxford County, lending his time and talent to the annual Play for Peace basketball clinic.

and this:

Quote
Celtics forward Brian Scalabrine will be riding in this weekend's Cape Cod Getway with the EMD Serono team. The avid cyclist is collaborating with with EMD Serono, a leader in the US biopharmaceutical arena that is integrating cutting-edge science with unparalleled patient support systems to improve people's lives with MS.

and this:

It's a safe bet that few of the participants or the 3,182 in attendance will remember the final score of Thursday's Spokane All-Americans Charity Classic at the McCarthey Athletic Center. . . .

It was the Floyd brothers, Colin and Ryan, going 1-on-1 a couple of times. It was Stuckey, Boston Celtic Brian Scalabrine and ex-Bulldog Mike Nilson diving for a loose ball, one of the few times defense took priority.

As much as I want to see Scal traded for an upgrade this off-season (due to his expiring contract), it's important to recognize that he really is a genuinely good guy.  He's well liked in the community and in the locker room.  If he is traded, I think he'll be missed.

Tp for taking the time to put this post together.

Scal is clearly one of the good guys and it's important that we focus on the positive stuff pro athletes do too.  Here's to Scal getting traded, bought out and back in green. ;)

Brian Scalabrine shaved his head to help raise awareness for the St. Baldrick's Foundation, which has raised more than $34 million for child cancer research with head shavings in 18 countries. Scalabrine was shaved Thursday and also shaved heads at The Greatest Bar across the street from TD Banknorth Garden.

"My wife is all good with it," he said. "She knows it's for a good cause. But my daughter was a little scared. She'll be turning 1 in a few weeks.

"She crawled right away from me, looking back scared. But by the time I came back from shootaround [yesterday], she was all good with it."

Good idea.  I'll keep this one in the memory banks for later.

See?  He's a bad role model.  Ship him out of town!

More importantly, when he is eating and talking in the locker room, he is going to spray his food on the floor.  KG will slip on it when he is trying to fire up the team and drive Pierce and Ray into the lockers, injuring all three of them before game 7.

As much as I want the C's to take advantage of his expiring contract, I really think having Scal around is really important to this team.  He does so much for the community, and I really think he is a difference-maker in the lockerroom.

Plus, I really think he would be a top candidate to ultimately succeed Tommy.

This is one of my all time favorite thread titles for the record...

Scal seems to be a genuinely good guy. But I have always been critical of Scal's game, until this year. He really is a serviceable player within his role, and is actually now a positive contributor on the roster, even when KG (and Powe?) come back. Way to go Scal, on and off the court this year. He and Perk were the most improved Celtics in my opinion.

Nice post Roy
"Let me call him," Floyd said.

The man shook his head. "O.J. doesn't give out his cell," he said. "He'll call you."

I would love that Scal would continue with us (for the minimum) after his current contract expires. He really contributes to the team and he is an example of behaviour for an elite basketball player.

Did you ever consider why he does all the the charity? It's for the free pizza.

If the Celts trade Scal, I hope they get back a personality!  I like him way better with longer hair too.  Keep the hair Scal! ( It matches the pizza too)

Great overall post Roy.  Every team (espeically a championship caliber team) needs a guy like Scal.
