I'm not really surprised that this idea is coming up, as the NBA is feeling the effects of the recession as much as anyone else. However, I feel there must be better, more creative ways of generating income besides having Subway and Geiko commercials on our teams' uniforms. David Stern has got to step in and keep this from happening...if one team does it, the rest will eventually follow suit. If the Celtics ever have beer and fast food commercials all over their jersies, I don't know what I'll do.

Eh, I actually kind of like Cuban.  I am sure many of the other owners are considering this as well, but just don't talk about it publically.  He may be a blowhard, but at least Cuban keeps things interesting.  Not to mention, any owner who is willing to spend the money to put a good product on the floor is good in my book, given all of the cheapskates, just looking to make a buck at the detriment of the product.

I hate Cuban as well.
I briefly fell in love with the Golden State Warriors when they upset the Mavericks a couple years ago.

He lost alot of respect with me for not being a man about apologizing to K-mart's mom.

Think whatever you want of martin (i personally don't care for him) but to not only insult a person's mother but then apologize via txt message on your blog instead of face to face (or phone to phone)? poor form.

You apologize to the person directly, not as a twitter publicity stunt. No one cares about an apology on a blog. that smacks of "Look at me! i'm sorry!" A real man would have done that in person, through a phone call directly to mom if your not willing to walk up to her or are worried about K-mart's reaction.

An impersonal blanket apology on a website is not how grown up's do things mark.

I think the C's would be a hold out for the adverts on the jersey - until we say - well if McDonalds wants to give us 10 mil - and we can use that to sign another player - it's hard to turn that down you know?

Hopefully there are more creative ways to than to advertise on the jersey - I'd be more open to an advertisement on the court - but nothing riduclous.

Or maybe Doc Rivers - like he could wear a burger king crown one game. In fact - I think the King charactor would be a great addition as a mascot.

Eh, I don't respect the vast majority of people in the public eye.  But Cuban keeps me entertained, both with his antics as well as his dedication to his team and the game of basketball in general.  For that, I am thankful he is an NBA owner.

right, but he failed basic personal human behavior in that case. IF your actually sorry about something, then be a man and talk to the person. Don't be a child and hide behind an impersonal apology on a website through which you never have to engage the actual wronged party.

I feel the same way about this as i do people who break up with others through txt messages because it would be "to hard" to speak with them. It's a cowards act.

More to the point, I don't like the idea of sponsor logos replacing team logos.  A jersey with "Boston Celtics" to me looks a lot better than a green jersey saying "Dunkin' Donuts".

Yea, im sure i would adjust to it, but it would tick me off.

The thing is, other famous teams do this and i don't even really think of it. MAn U comes to mind. I don't associate the Red's with a particular advisement, I just know they put stuff on their jerseys. If i stop to really think about it i remember the "O" on the front of course.

I would hate it personally, it would probably stop me from ever buying another jersey, but i can't say i would take it as far as not watching.

Hopefully we'll never have to see it.

I agree, although the C's might have an easy opportunity for cross promoting...

Generally speaking, owners like Cuban are good for the game.

As long as you don't have too many of them.

Didn't ManU have AIG for the longest time?  That was, I think, the wealthiest sports team, with AIG on the front.  I agree that's selling out, but come on.  Just look at our arenas that change names every other year because of contracts.  Look at Bank of America, I mean, TD Banknorth, I mean TD Garden or whatever it's called now.  What about the Staples Center?  America Airlines Arena.  I personally think corporate names on our arenas is more of a "sell out" move than on the jerseys.  At least you can overlook the logos on jersey, you can't overlook an arena name.

Maybe it'll be like the Celtics Dancers - many were opposed at first, but I'm sure we all got used to them by now  ;)
