Shannon Brown as back up PG?

I just read that he will be an unrestricted FA.  Though young, he played very well for the Lakers down the stretch. He is very athletic, a good defender, and has good size, which is what you want from your back up PG given House as the 2. Plus, he has to fight for minutes with Farmar in the back up PG slot, not an issue here (sorry, Gabe).

Meh, he's nothing special. He'd be a fine third string PG or situational defensive substitution. Eddie should be the backup PG for the team at this point. Better to spend our money on a big and a wing.

I agree totally with Fafnir. While he's a decent third string backup I would not want him as the main backup to Rondo.

On a side note about him, how funny is it that he is actually getting playing time with the Lake Show when it seemed like they initially made that trade with Charlotte to acquire Morrison?

I dont like the idea of house as a back up pg. He simply just doesnt have the size and strength to handle the ball. I think, having Brown and House as options would work - depending on who we're playing and the situation.

But eddie's shooting was much better with a true PG on the court. one thing steph did well was get assists to eddie.

but the problem, as cor has pointed out numerous times, is that to play house at the SG, we need a much bigger pure PG, since eddie struggles to guard SG's.

In a perfect world we'd have a backup passing PG with the size to match up against SG's and have him and eddie swap assignments on defense.

brown has the size, but im not sure he's the PG we need. I wouldn't mind making him our third stringer for the minimum i guess...but i'd prefer a more established guy.

He is worth the look.  He has had good stretchs this playoffs.  He can guard SGs (so he can work with House)

You are spot on about that. But even though Eddie doesn't shoot as well handling the ball the team plays better, and that is what it is about in the end.

Besides Eddie is passable doing it, we only have a limited MLE and overall budget to fill our needs. I'd rather focus on areas we can't fill with our current roster.

He's never really played the position, has he?  His assist rate is nothing special, either; he has a career high of 3 assists per 36 minutes, and has a 13:10 assist/turnover ratio in the playoffs so far.

He plays well for the Lakers because he is a guard because he fits the triangle offense.  That offense doesn't need a true PG, he wouldn't really fit with us.

I don't think he's proven enough to take that type of risk on him. As a third string point, I'd love him, but as a primary backup, feels too risky.

I worry about his game once removed from the Triangle. That hides his lack of PG skills ... and he's also shot the ball a lot better in LA than he has in other plays which looks like a question mark too.

The Lakers didn't use the triangle the entire second half of the game last night. Of course Brown didn't play either, so that makes sense.

How great would it be if Jason Kidd decided to come play in Boston for a reasonable price? In a perfect world he would be the backup passing PG you spoke of who could guard the opposing team's 2 guard.

That would be awesome for a year contract, mabey we can brainwash him into signing a LLE deal
