People talk a lot about Sheed and Dyess, but what about Gooden?  He's 6'10'', is a solid player, is a good PF and could potentially play C if necessary, and may well be in our price range - if Sheed is in our price range, I have to imagine Gooden could be. 

In some ways I think I'd rather have Gooden than Sheed or Dyess.  He is probably better inside than Sheed and he has a bit more height than Dyess and isn't as old as either of them.

You make some good points but Gooden is a huge downgrade on defense compared to Dyess or Sheed. He can't defend PF's and certainly cannot defend centers. That coupled with his last two below par seasons plus injuries and I woudn't want to throw much money toward him- or take him instead of Sheed or Dyess.

Gooden's performance in San Antonio was fairly [dang]ing. I lost a lot of confidence in him after that.

I think there's better options available -- McDyess and Zaza.

Gooden would be a nice offensive player for the second unit, but unfortunately his position is where we need another solid defender more than anything.  As much as this team needs someone who can play the inside game it cannot be something that is prioritized over defense.  Defense won #17 and number #18 is not going to happen in the next few years if the team philosophy strays from that.

If we can't get Sheed, McDyess, or Zaza, I would look at Joe Smith, Chris Wilcox and Rasho before I would look at Gooden.  And the only guys I would actually offer the MLE to would be Sheed McDyess and Zaza...the other guys would have to be willing to take significantly less.

Agreed.  I've just heard (as we all have) too many rumors about how bad this guy's work ethic is.  What Gooden might do to the team dynamic is a little questionable.
