Kapono traded for Reggie Evans

Well, its not like they were giving away major assets to make the deal.  At this point in the preseason, if you can do anything at all to improve your team, its a good move.

Excellent trade for Toronto -- saved a couple of buckets, brought in a better player, a player who is serviceable, and rid themselves of Kapono -- it's hard to see them doing any better than that in a Jason Kapono trade.

Decent trade for Phily -- They have enough bigs to give Evans minimal value to the team, and they brought back someone of minimal value to the team, but someone who fills a need -- Decent deal.

Evans averaged 7.5 rebounds two years ago in 23.2 minutes.

The only thing Evans can do is rebound.  I don't think it's fair to criticize Kapono's one skill -- amazingly efficient three point shooting -- and then harp on Evans one talent.  Evans is terrible offensively, is terrible defensively, and is terrible passing.  He rebounds.  That's it.

Why this makes Philly much better is because they desperately lacked shooting last season.  Additionally, Evans wasn't looking at many minutes next season, with Dalembert, Brand, and Speights locking up the top three spots in the big man rotation.

From my perspective, they replaced a one-dimensional player who wouldn't help them with a one-dimensional player who fills their major team weakness.  Any time you replace a guy at the end of your bench with a key rotation player, I think it is going to substantially improve your team.

Well, they had Oakley, and he punched out a guy (Ty Hill?) during a shootaround, so that's a pretty good start.  Didn't they have Antonio Davis in his twilight too?

  Dale Davis was always tougher than Antonio Davis, but I'll give you Oakley. Forgot about that.

Evans is a career 47% shooter.  Not too shabby.  He is an offensive black hole for the most part.  Evans does average more steals for his career as well.  I am simply pointing this out for the sake of argument:-)  Clearly, this trade favors Philly.  It just really doesn't help that a lot, especially with (IMHO) their poor choice for their new coach.  They will once again be fighting for a playoff spot.  Same old same old in the City of Brotherly Love.
