Well, good trade for both teams. Philly desperately needs shooters and Toronto could use some toughness and rebounding.

I agree, that trade makes sense for both teams.  Toronto got tougher (which they desperately needed) and Philly got some shooting.

Agreed.  This should make Philly a much better team next season.

I thought trades couldn't start until July or after the playoff season ends....or am I thinking about free agency?

Or are Philly and Toronto just announcing this and will consummate the deal when it is able?

you're thinking of free agency.  Teams out of the playoffs can trade at this point.

The article said "Toughness is an aspect of the game Toronto has been lacking for years".

  Was Toronto ever tough?

Well, they had Oakley, and he punched out a guy (Ty Hill?) during a shootaround, so that's a pretty good start.  Didn't they have Antonio Davis in his twilight too?

Yep.  The only caveat is that you can't trade players who are going to be free agents (or could become free agents via an option).

Roy,

I don't know about "much better."  Kapono is a terrible defender and is horrifically one-dimensional. He averaged 2 rebounds, 1.3 assists, and .3 steals in just under 23 minutes last year to go along with 8.2 points.

Evans averaged 7.5 rebounds two years ago in 23.2 minutes.

Right, but philly can't hit the broad side of the barn from beyond the arc, which really hurts them since they often get guys open deep due to fast breaking.

They have other defenders to replace Evans. What they don't have, as roy said, are shooters.

This is a good trade for both.

I love Jason Kopono, so naturally i love this move for Philly. But i'm in agreement that its a good deal on both sides.

Crownsy,

I agree whole heartedly that this is a good trade for both teams.  I just disagree that this trade makes them "much better."

Agreed.  Philly still needs to find a shooter they can keep on the floor longer, without him being a liability.  But its a start.

And of course Evans was going to be seeing significantly fewer minutes next year anyways, with Brand back, and Speights needing minutes as well.

sure this trade works for both sides, but do korver for philly or evans for toronto really make a difference either way?  seems like both teams are running in place with this move
