Someone mentioned Beasley, but he's not really a PF.

If I were Miami I would get on the horn immediately with an offer of Beasley for the #2 and a separate sign and trade for Warrick.

Why?  Beasley should be their starting SF this year.

I think Beasley is ultimately  going to be like Shawn Marion. Okay at the SF and better at the PF.

I'm just that high on Rubio. And a Wade/Rubio back court? Yes, please.

Also, I don't love Beasley, who couldn't hold off career journeymen Moon and Diawara in his rookie season, and then didn't reliably dominate other team's second unit forwards. Glenn Robinson redux? Short term, I'm not convinced Warrick couldn't approximate 80% of his sophomore numbers.

yeah, I would too because Beasley has serious question marks about who he can be as a pro. I'm not sure that MEM would go that direction.

they have:

Conley
Mayo
Gay
<insert>
Gasol

They just need a scoring PF to have a pretty balanced starting unit.

that video does nothing for me.  I'm still not impressed with him.

Like I said, he is nowhere near as good as Rudy Fernandez and I'd take Rondo over Rudy Fernandez.

I don't know. At first when I started watching that video I was like blah. He looks like an unproven less athletic Rondo. But then as it went on, especially the 2nd half, I was thoroughly impressed. For an 18 yr old to be able to see and do the things he does. He looks special. Like the kind of player that would have players wanting to be a Celtic for the next 15 yrs. Looked good in Celtic green too.

I couldn't get through the whole video.  Highlight videos are so freakin ridiculous.  You can make Mikki Moore look like KG if you made a flattering highlight video.  I'm not impressed.  The guy can't even start for his team in Europe, right?  He's probably 5 years away from even being a starter in the NBA.

Also I have to think that if Rubio as an 18 yr old was the point guard for Spain in the Olympics, the team that almost beat the Redeem Team in the Finals, that a yr later, it wouldn't be much different then handing the keys to Rondo in yr 2.

Actually wasn't Rubio the 3rd string point guard for that team behind the injured guy who lasted a year in the NBA and Rudy Fernandez?

Not impressed.

You can make Mikki Moore look like KG if you made a flattering highlight video.

Not without special effects.

If the Celtics are thinking about gambling on Rubio (Which I am down for. He seems on the level of Steve Nash as far as B-ball IQ, breaking down the opposing defense, and I think he's a way better finisher at the basket than Rondo. Of course, the NBA level defense may slow down his playmaking.) So obviously we lose in a straight up Rondo for Rubio in the short-term, other than giving us 3 years of cap-flexability.
The timing of this is what is troubling; Ray expires the same time that Rondo is going to be looking at getting a HUGE payout, which I don't want to devote solely to one player. So unless we are assuming Ray re-signs for waaaay under his market value, how will we be able to keep both Ray and Rondo in the future? This coupled with the fact that Ray was very unpredictable in showing up and performing when we needed him in the playoffs, really has me concerned with competing with improving Denver, improving Houston, the Lake-show, and even possibly the Wizards if Agent-0 comes back full force. Orlando was younger, faster, and more aggressive in getting to the basket. Sure KG would have made the difference, but they also are missing Jameer Nelson, so that all goes back and forth.
My point is, why not try to manipulate Chris Wallace yet again and get Rudy Gay a reasonable extension, which should be cheaper or equal value than Ray. I feel that Gay is way better than Ray at this point for several reasons: Age, Same stats last season (18 ppg, same as Ray, one less APG and, 2 more RPG) and he can fly and get to the basket the way Lebron does (getting to the free-throw line and drawing more attention inside). He isn't half bad at the 3, and this also allows Pierce to slide to the two, gives us more size, and a younger, more capable defender in Gay.

So, my suggested trade would be:
Rondo
Ray
Giddens or Walker

for
#2 (Rubio)
Gay (extended contract)
Darrel Arthur

Both teams gain the kind of cap-flexability they need, short-term for C's, long-term for Grizz. We get back Arthur as well, who could end up being the calibur big off the bench that we need, and also gives us the ability to use the full MLE to a veteran C plus a little more with the short-term money we save on dumping Ray's contract to re-sign Powe and House or another shooter.

I don't see how Rubio doesn't have a great rookie season with every kind of weapon in the arsenal provided for him (scoring 2, 3, and 4, low post-5). If Marbury agrees to a one or two year cheap deal, he will get more minutes that he wants as we ease Rubio into the system (although he could end up just killing it from the start, he is that good).

I'm sure some of you may think this is crazy and it is giving up too much, but we are getting the best player in the deal in Gay and he doesn't even have to be the star of the team like he has to be now in Memphis. No double teams with KG and PP on the floor. He becomes that much more dangerous IMO.

Jeff put it best, this is nothing more than ‘Danny being Danny’ (ugh), and simply asking how much it costs to be in play. "Kicking the tires" indeed.

Maybe it went as far as Danny telling Chris Wallace that he’d be more than happy to help out with the expires (Tony and Scal, not so much Ray) in a 3 team scenario if he could get #27 and/or #36 in return, which seems to be prime real estate in the draft for Danny anyway.

Still though, with an injury-assisted early exit from the playoffs it’s fun to throw these rumors around to pass the time I guess.

There is no one on the Celtics I would want to give up for Rubio. Not even a sign and trade with Moore.

If this trade goes down it will be

Boston getting #2 and gay

Memphis getting rondo, ray allen and next years 1st round pick

Memphis reasons: Wallace is about to get fired imo. He has done didly squat as a gm for memphis just as he did squat when he was our gm. Its time for his team to make it to the playoffs and see what his superstar mayo can do. Rubio, thabeet(they already have gasol) really would just make them younger and even more inexperienced and another scenerio where he packages the pick for say the 7th pick plus a good vet still wound't help them even make the playoffs. So adding guys who have won it all in rondo(starting point) and allen(6th man i would imagine) would at least get them to the playoffs and iniate some excitement in memphis. (i believe also rondo is from the memphis area)

Boston reson: This is ray allens last season as a celtic and rondo is needed to be signed to an extension. The biggest headache danny i could imagine is having is what amount to give rondo in addition when soon after pierce/kg get old or leave how effective he will be (since he can't shoot too well)? Even though getting rubio would be a big key to making this trade i think also adding a future star in gay is as important(to fill that sf/sg void) and no way danny does a rondo for rubio trade on its own(too risky). Gay to me has all the tools to be a top 3 sf in the league. He just needs vet presence,  more pressure and a system to excel. Rubio's ceiling will be jason kid when he was good and at worst steve blake.

I will never doubt dannys capabilities to trade anyone in the celtics roster after he traded supposedly our franchise pf al jefferson for kg.

If this trade happens we not only get younger but at an important athletic piece in the middle we were sorely lacking. Plus i think rubio will be really good as a pg for the celtics. He can shoot thats no doubt maybe not like steve nash could but he won't miss open jumpers like rondo.

The benefit of this trade works out for all teams in play giving memphis the pisces to get their team in the playoffs and boston to not get any worst then they are today plus have a more secure future.

Rondo is one of my fav players but i trust danny if this trade happens
