Andrew Bynum is getting a lot of love from Johnny Ludden, to the extent of calling him a "Franchise Center". Call me a homer but at this point in their respective careers, I'd rather have Perk any time of the day. Any thoughts?

Very different players, but you need to remember that Perkins has been in the league two years longer. He is also older, so you need to judge Bynum against where Perk was two years ago.

Bynum has more potential in that he can still be come a very good defender if he learns to avoid stupid fouls. Meanwhile he has great hands and length. Already he's a better offensive option than Perkins.

The problem with Bynum is that he's getting paid big time money when so far he hasn't stayed healthy or played consistently well for longer than 20 games.

Bynum has shown that he can become a franchise player.

But to me - his attitude reminds of Odom's. Just seems on some night he just dones care. I just dont see any emotion/passion in Bynums game that superstars needed.

But keep in mind he's 21 years old (i'm 99% sure). Imagine him a few years from now and little more grooming. But think like toughness and attitude you can't teach, and he just seeems a little too timid. I think being timid also leads to silly fouls- and he looks akward too often, probably second guessing all the plays he makes.

We're all assuming that Bynum will someday play a full season, right?   ;)

I think Bynum's tough, he's just dumb sometimes. He's probably a better player than Perk right now, mostly because of his offensive game, but I'd rather have Perk, with his much better contract and greater consistency, at this point. Much of that is because I worry, as RAcker points out, about whether Bynum can last a full season (though Perk's recurrent shoulder injuries shouldn't be dismissed out of hand). But the fact is, Bynum is doing a similar defensive job on Howard to what Perk did and gives you a better offensive threat to keep Howard from swallowing up all penetration by other players. The consistency thing hasn't been proven yet, though. I still don't think Bynum can keep up that defense for a full series, though LA may only need 5 games instead of 7.
Go Celtics.

The Lakers have over $50M tied up in their big 3 (Kobe, Pau, Bynum).  I would sure rather have Perk at $4.5M plus whatever can be bought for $8.0M this off season then to have Bynum at $12.5M.  I don't think he is ever going to be worth the cap space he is taking up and it is to be seen if he even catches up with Perk.  He is young and big but still, right now I will bet the Lakers have some buyer's remorse on that contract.

I would much rather have Perk at this point in thier respective careers. Its still a mystery to me as to why Perk didnt make it on to the all-defensive second team atleast. This guy just flat out knows how to defend.  Also his offense is getting better each year in incriments.  It really made me upset to hear all those stupid "what if" comments from lakers fans and media such as "what if Bynum played in the finals last year", like this guy is the second coming of Kareem. Well.. like Bob discount furniture always says...I DOUBT IT!
Practice?...I mean...we talking about..Practice..not even like a game...but...practice

I think Bynum benefits from having Pau there for help on Howard.  Perk was largely on an island without another serious "large" to help him.  Bynum looks more fluid in spots it's true, but I think Perk's offense is a lot more solid than people give him credit for.  We get him the ball when we need to calm down and stabilize our half court offense.

Fact is, Perk's a quiet, fiery leader on the Celtics.  He sets a gritty example for the rest of the team.  As far as the Celtics go, no way Bynum could replace what Perkins gives the Celtics.  At least not for several years.

Perk >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Bynum.

If bynum continues to show only a passing intrest in defense at best, then i agree.

If he combines his offense with some tough defense, then not so much.

Right now, especially with what he showed me against Howard, I'd rather have Perk.  Perk looks to be stronger and buffer.  You give Perk the couple of inches that Bynum has and make him a true seven footer, he'd be unreal.
