What's his deal, last I heard he was only signed for this year?  Any chance we could convince him to come here?  Think he'd be too expensive?  To me he looks like a guy in the similar mold of a Posey but would be cheaper...

Can't say I've been watching these Finals religiously with the C's out of it, but how much can he be blamed for Kobe's going off for 40 and 30 or whatever it's been the past 2 games? I think a guy like this could shore up our bench/team defense in the same way Posey did... any thoughts?

Pietrus has been exposed for what he is.  Nothing more than a 3 pt shooter.  If you guard the 3 pt line, he give you nothing.  Every time he drives to the hole, he comes up empty.  The Celtics and Cleveland left him open, that's why he killed them.

Yeah, without KG defending the paint.

Well, he is also a hell of a defender.

But yes, offensively, he is one dimensional.  Essentially, he is a 27 year old James Posey.

Which is funny, because when people advocated signing him last year, hoards of users lined up and talked about what a horrible defender he was.  It seemed silly at the time, and it seems sillier now.

However, at $5.3 million per season for the next three years, I think the Celtics would look elsewhere, even if Orlando was inclined to move him to a Conference rival.

His defense hasn't impressed me this year until the playoffs. Which tells me it is probably just a matter of focus over the regular season. Plus he was hurt for much of the early going.

Agreed.  I think it would take a special player for the C's to give that kind of money over that many years right now, and as good as Pietrus has been, he is not a special player.

He's got major hops. I think Pierce could teach him a thing to about taking it to the whole. And a three point shooter was all James Posey is. They both play the same defense and the same offense but Pietrus is young and if he can go to the hole we could get a valuable 6th man who can play at a high level for a while seeing as he's only 27. I know the Magic signed him to the MLE but I have no clue if they signed him long term after they agreed to the MLE.

He is signed to a nice contract - 4 years, $5.3 million each year ($21.2 total), last of which is a player option. So he actually signed for less than Posey (4 years, just over $25 million). I agree with Toppers - he has pretty much the same offense and defense as Posey. The differences are that Posey is a few inches taller so he can play minutes at the 4, while Pietrus is five years younger and quicker, so he can defend 2s. In hindsight (and in the foresight of some people who proposed this last summer, though I didn't), I don't see how anybody would have a problem with Pietrus being here under a 4 year, $21.2 mil contract. Of course, in that case, we have no Eddie House.
Go Celtics.

I will say that I was against signing him last offseason.  I knew he was a 3 point shooter but i thought his defense was a little overrated.

I'd definetly sign him now if he was available, but hes not.  Orlando's not gonna trade him, especially to us, so I dont understand the point in talking about it.

Last offseason I didnt care much for Matt Barnes either, I thought his 3 point shooting stats were misleading and again his defense overrated.  Maybe Im wrong twice??

Don't feel bad Greg, I'd still prefer you as GM over Chris Wallace.

I have a friend who follows GS pretty closely and we talked about him last summer. We pretty much agreed that he would disappoint when it mattered.

But i have to say that what he did in the CLE series was a key part of their winning. He knocked down big shots and muscled Bron around just enough to keep him for the most part concentrated on his own game (Bron is best when he is getting the whole team involved).

Much like Pose did for the Cs last off season, Pietrus has been just that little extra factor to make them difficult to beat. and I actually think if he doesn't get fouled out of last night's game, ORL wins it.

he's been a better pick up than i expected. hopefully he can get it going in the Finals here.
