I got this from Hoopshype: "The source also said veteran free agent Tim Thomas, 32, is quietly expressing interest in the Celtics. The 6-foot-10-inch, 240-pounder averaged 8.5 points and 3.1 rebounds and shot 41.3 percent from 3-point range with the Clippers, Knicks, and Bulls in 64 games last season. Thomas played with Allen in Milwaukee."

I don't know what to say other than I would prefer not to see this guy in green. Although he would only command a minimum salary, I'm still not interested. What do you guys think?

  • Rondo doesn't believe in easy buckets...
The impression that I have always gotten is that he's a moody slacker type.

In other words, a moody cancer.

I'd pass on Mark Blount 2.0.

Thomas should be an example to young players of how not to play.  There are few players in the NBA who have gotten less out of their talent than Tim Thomas.  For a guy of his skills to essentially skate through his career putting up mediocre numbers is unacceptable.

Unfortunately, NBA GMs didn't seem to mind, paying this clown over $90 million in his career.

my post from the front page:

I'm actually not down on this. It obviously depends on who is available, but if we could get TT to play the way he did in PHO, it could really help scoring off the bench.

I was interested him probably more for this past season because it looked like NYC would move him, but for this season, I would still keep him on the radar. and I definitely like it when a player wants to play here.

depends heavily on how things shake down, though. for instance, if we went Dice instead of Sheed, then I wouldn’t mind having TT be that long SF/PF that can spread the floor with his outside shot…

To me, he is a decent fall back option if the first couple options sign somewhere else.

You never know, a one year vet min why playing with a strong leader like KG, you could get good quality backup minutes from him.

But only if the Celtics can not get other swing men like Grant Hill first.

if we sign Thomas for a portion of the MLE or the vet. min how can you be against this trade? I can see you calling him overpaid but he's still a skilled and effective player if he can be had at a good value

The vet min is fine.

Anything more is taking a chance with the limited funds the Celtics have to put sure things on the bench.  Thomas is not a sure thing.

His lack of interest in hustle, hard work, etc. is only matched by the abomination of POB.

I have no interest in that kind of a no work ethic guy on this basketball team.

Darius Miles 2.0?

Not exactly.  Miles health made him a bigger unknown.

Thomas has had good seasons and bad seasons.  He is a player in need of motivation.

i think getting a guy like tim thomas can be one of the little differences that could mean NOT winning it. i just think having a guy on your team who does'nt really care that much hurts morale a tiny bit. that's another reason i like mcdyess. it's about talent and fit first but it does'nt hurt that people just LIKE antonio.i'm not sure if mcdyess is the best option we have but if he does come here i'm sure we'll here the big 3 mention at least once wanting to see antonio get a taste of being a champion. man, tim thomas could have been a REALLY good player i think.i think for the most part he should have been a perernnial bordeline all star. what a waste.

According to Hoopshype, TT has over $6M left next year so it isn't likely to be a minimum contract for us next year.  To get TT we problably need to trade TA and Scal.  That could potentially be an upgrade but not likely to be at the top of the off season list.
