Dwyane Wade has filed lawsuit against a man who goes by the name Baron Richard von Houtman. von Houtman allegedly told Wade's basketball coach that Wade had used cocaine and steroids and is now being sued for libel and slander.

Wade aside,

Steroids and PED's are obviously all over football, baseball & Olympic related sports --- it would be foolish for us to think that they haven't been used in hoops (or hockey for that matter).
sometimes you have to bite your lip, exhale and move on.  So, I have.

This is true. That being said, I really hope the likes of Dwyane Wade haven't resorted to using performance enhancing drugs. Recreational drugs is bad enough (and dumb enough) but at least let me believe that his talent is natural.

I agree.

Look at Lebron and tell me he's not on something. Basketball may just have the least benifit from steroids as it wont make you taller or much quicker - only stronger and a little faster.

It's not going to help your shot, or your ball skills, or your passing. But if I had to go up against Dwight Howard, yeah - i'd take all the help I can get.

Does anyone know if the NBA even tests for this stuff?

Look at Lebron when he was in highschool... he was a beast then he's a beast now. He is and always has been a beast.. not a small person who magically grew (barry bonds)

if the NBA does test good for them but who cares like you said it will not make you a better player at all..

I don't understand this perception that steroids offer basketball players little to no advantage ???

Steroids increase muscle size and strength, speed recovery time and maximize energy levels. These are tremendous benefits for any professional athlete.

Because people think all steroid users look like this:

I mean if you're a fringe talent player coming back from major injury, taking steroids to minimize your recovery time would be a huge temptation. Heck even if you're an elite level player. Or an aging player whose body just doesn't bounce back like it used to. Or a young guy that was told he needs to put on 10 lbs of muscle to be a first round draft pick.

It makes sense for a lot of guys...its amazing that no NBA players are doing them.

I think many NBA players would be interested in being stronger, faster, quicker, and have better recovery time from injuries.

The perception that all steroids can do for a person is make them strong and none athletic, ala bonds and Big mac is false. Those two wanted to hit home runs, a power dependent skill,  so they didn't train for lean muscle much at all.

There is a reason some of the most steroid riddled sports are Olympic sprinting and swimming , and those guys aren't doing cocktails to get jacked, there doing lean muscle cocktails to get faster.

who says lebron didn't take steroid while in high school? That is even worse, he would then have used them to get to the NBA. Also, he entered the NBA from high school, and hasn't been in the league THAT long

By no means am I inferring Wade or anyone else is using, it's just that we'd all be foolish to think that there aren't players who are.
