If we can't get him a reliably good backup then unfortunately yes.

Meaning Paul Pierce.

the guy coming off the first serious knee surgery of his career, until he shows that he's all the way back in my book.

Pierce.

It seems like the captain doesn't take his condition seriously enough. It might be the supposed bone spurs that slowed him down, or it could be that he was simply gassed. It's becoming common knowledge that he splits the summer between partying and working out. This off season he should focus more on conditioning. The guy's not getting any younger.

I think KG and Ray are going to be able to maintain their games very well ... so it's Paul by default I guess.

I don't expect to see much decline next season from them, similar performances from this/last season.

A depressing topic, but a good one.  I think you will see gradual slowing in all of them in terms of their skill set, but when together this really doesn't show when they are clicking.

I have to guess KG because of the knee concern until he proves me wrong.  I pray he does.

I just can't help but think that they are going to get some rest and be extremely inspired and on a mission next season to make up for this year.  Green glasses?  Maybe.

Garnett by a landslide in my mind. Pierce won't stop playing until he collapses, the truth always delivers for the Celtics. Ray will be okay for next year, I can't see where he would have a huge dropoff.
True Celtic = Leon Powe

Bring back the show!!!!

How could it be anyone but KG with the knee injury?

This seems offset by multiple reports that he's the second hardest worker, conditioning wise, to ray on the entire team.

that aside, I agree that, assuming that KG shows he has come back strong from the knee injury, its paul, but not because of his conditioning, but the way he plays. He takes a ton of hard hits and bumps throughout the course of a season.

Ray is going to be a miller-type guy, a skinny body type who keeps himself in ridiculous shape and can shoot till he's 40. He'll lose other parts of his game, but he'll always be able to find work, even off the bench, as a shooter.

Paul's game is based on his driving ability being respected so highly. As he gets older, that will start to go, and then he;ll be easier to defend.

I think its likely to be paul, again assuming KG is fully healthy.

I would say KG, but I expect him to come back strong from his injury, since we don't know how he will react to his surgery, I'm gonna be optimistic and say that he'll be fine.

Unfortunately I think that Paul will show the most decline next season. Still, if each star has a good backup and if Doc manages well their minutes a la Popovich, I think that the Big Three will come out even stronger in the playoffs, despite their age.

I think KG reached a plateau last season.

I think Ray will last as long as his legs last

I think we're gonna see a lot more mid range step backs from pauly.

I think we'll see Paul's decline, but it'll be in the form of a change in style of play.

I just hope he didn't peak as a defender last season.

As of now we have for PP backups :
scal-great guy to have on end of bench
Tony-too short for sf and a turnover waiting to happen, also doc has lost faith in him (see playoffs)
Walker-unproven (see doc not playing young guys)
If we can't spell Pierce next season its him, he has the tough guards.  Ray can play forever his d is still very good/underrated and will always hit the jumpers.  If ray wants to move to bench playing later on in his career he could play to 50!  KG isn't a low post banger, hes a defensive killer and jump shooter, he'll be back same as last season.

KG's already shown the greatest decline during our championship year, before the knee spur. Now, with surgery/rest, he'll to back to his '08 level. And that's enough for this team.

As for PP, without a true personal trainer, he'll have the greatest decline because he needs to bang, down low, some more, to get to the line, the perimeter getting-in-one's-face technique isn't going to work over time, as the younger players are still a tad faster.

As for Ray Ray, well, as someone stated, he'll go the way of Miller with a steady decline till the age of 39. All and all, let's hope that no one goes the way of Drexler, who was clearly in decline after the the '96 season. And he was only 34 when it happened. What a shame.
