What about Artest or Marion?

Marion...ehhhh

Id love Artest.....his intensity with KG, oh mannnnnn,,,,

if we put out a lineup at any point with Rondo, PP, Ron Ron, KG and Perk....points would be hard to come by...thats a  lineup id love to see out  there

Dang right, bring on Ron-Ron. Him, Perk and KG, let the tech's and intensity flyyyy.

Why is Gortat one-dimensional?

I've been seeing Gortat playing for 5 years, he's tested enough.

Gortat's offensive game is virtually non-existent. Outside of layup range, he is useless. I will, however, admit that he gives good energy and it usually translates to solid defense. But I fail to see how a former second round pick who has played a total of sixty nine career NBA regular season games is "tested". Sorry, that's not good enough for me. Yes, he has had his moments in this year's playoffs. But let's not get carried away. Gortat is what he is, a hustle player with limited ability, who may or may not be playing above himself for a contract (Big Baby anyone)? I think we can do better.

It might be Grant Hill.  Hill's a classy guy, fits a big hole, hasn't won a ring, has some history with Doc and won't cost Wyc's ownership group their collective arm and a leg.

I just hope it's not someone beneath Hill, like an Anthony Parker, who would be nice, but hardly qualifies as the missing piece.

Other than Hill, I'd be ecstatic if it was Dice.

Artest and Sheed are two guys whose reputations and ego will put them out of our price range, and they wouldn't bring the consistency Hill and Dice could offer, but they certainly are intriguing.  Artest's defense could give us an incredible lockdown defensive unit in key situations and his 3-pt shooting would be a nice asset, though his determined inefficiency could derail our offense.  Sheed's low-post D, shot-blocking and 3-pt shooting are a truly unique and potent package, but he might be over-the-hill.

Greg683x, we're speculating on who Wyc might have in mind when he's talking of spending big bucks on a free agent. I was suggesting that Rasheed and McDyess didn't fit the bill, since they weren't well-suited anymore to matching up with the Orlando Magic. Too slow.

Yes, Garnett and Pierce would be our starters, and they'd be out guarding Lewis and Turkoglu. But when you're talking about signing a high-priced free agent, and pursuing a championship, then you need a guy who could step in against the starters of your toughest conference opponent. There's no doubt Rasheed or McDyess would be handy against lots of lesser teams in the regular season. But when it comes down to the Magic in the playoffs, I don't see either one of them as being able to cut it. Alternatively, I do think Gortat could play center against Howard if Perkins was tired or in foul trouble. That's why I'd sign him if we could. (Probably though, we can't afford him.) As for finding a free agent who could come off the bench and cover Lewis or Turkoglu, I don't know who I'd get. But it'd have to be somebody a lot quicker than either Rasheed or McDyess.

I agree that Artest would be the most talented player and fit the needs of the team. He could play 3 or 4, be a lockdown defender and score 20 when needed. I just don't see the Cs being able to afford Artest, as he could easily get more money to go to Cleavland or possibly the Lakers.

Varajeo(sp?) is making a mistake opting out, but I wonder if he could be a guy DA and Wyc would covet?

My wishlist- in order

1) Artest-total pipedream
2) McDyess- a great fit
3) Sheed- The guy has talent- Does he want another ring?
4) Grant Hill- see McDyess
5) Andrew Varajeo- can C's afford him?
6) Gortat

he's prob going to get over paid, but that guy is Ariza,,,,6'8, long, good defender and as athletic as they come

Ariza is on record as saying he hates the C's. I can't see this one happening.

I haven't seen enough of Gortat to comment on him.  The Polish Hammer is a pretty cool retro nickname though.

The complaints about Sheed or Dice not matching up with Orlando seem very off-base to me.  They anchored the frontline that's been giving Howard and the Magic fits for last two years (and maybe before, but I wasn't paying attention then).

i dont see it happening either,,,,but i dont think itll be becaue of hatred for the c's

johnny damon declared his hatred for the yanks and calls the bronx home

and jason taylor previously acknowledged his hatred for the Pats and came pretty close to comin to foxboro....money and opportunity to win trumps almost anything...unfortunately the money most likely wont be there to lure him in

I'd say for Wyc to go out of his way to mention someone it has to be a big free agent splash, here's my guesses (in no particular order).

1. Birdman
2. Sheed
3. Marion
4. Artest
5. Allen Iverson
DKC:  Rockets
CB Draft: Memphis Grizz
Players: Klay Thompson, Jabari Parker, Aaron Gordon
Next 3 picks: 4.14, 4.15, 4.19

Please don't let it be Iverson!  I fear that man.  Far more toxic than Marbury ever could be.

I doubt it's Birdman, as we already passed on him once, and he doesn't seem to be a Doc or even Wyc type of player.

Not Marion.  Wouldn't settle for 4th banana off the bench at MLE money.

#4 strikes me as the biggest problem. Artest is a good basketball player and would be an excellent back up at the 3, but i've never been a huge Artest fan since the brawl at the palace. The man has serious character issues he needs to work out, and he looked close to knifing Kobe during the playoffs. If we wanted Sheed we'd need to make sure he's not falling off *too* much talent wise. Him and Big Ben are the same age and Bens had a SEVERE drop off in talent in the past few years. Basically a proceed with caution maneuver. I think re-signing Marbury should be the first to be taken care of since it's the easiest problem to fix.

I'm really leaning toward McDyess or Sheed. I think either would be a great fit. Both are versatile offensive weapons (especailly Sheed) and both are very good defenders who can pretty much defend most PF's and centers. They both have great experience and seem like they would mesh with the current Celtics team instantly.

I would be pretty dissapointed if we signed Varajeo, Gortat, or Zaza. I just don't think Varajeo gives us a lot especially for the money he would be looking for. He is a good defender but doesn't offer anything offensively. I think that we could sign Baby (and Powe)for cheaper money who IMO both have more upside, already have better offense and have continued to improve their defense. I don't really see the point in letting baby go and signing varejeo or bringing them both on. As for Gortat and Zaza i feel like some C's fans just have some infatuation with players like these who have decent games when they play against us, but who overall don't bring much to the table. I guess I would bring either of them on for cheap but in no way do i think they would really improve our team much if at all.
