  • Doc could learn a thing or two from Norman Dale
... which means they won't be hiring Tom Thibodeau.

Quote
Eddie Jordan has been hired as the new coach of the Philadelphia 76ers.

Eddie Jordan

Eddie JordanJordan comes to the Sixers with eight years of head coaching experience with the Wizards and the Kings.

NBA coaching sources told ESPN.com on Friday night that the Sixers have reached an agreement with Jordan, who along with Dallas Mavericks assistant coach Dwane Casey were the only candidates to be interviewed twice.

Jordan was fired by the Washington Wizards in November. The Wizards owe Jordan nearly $4 million next season and would have to pay the difference on the contract from Jordan's new team.

Jordan is 230-288 in coaching stints with the Wizards and the Sacramento Kings.

I don't understand why NBA teams constantly hire retreads.  Jordan was horrible in Sacramento, and never got his Washington teams to be anything other than mediocre, despite having a very talented roster.  The 76ers could have used some fresh blood.

I'm glad that that eliminates one of TT's suitors, though.

this improves our chances of hopefully getting Thibodeau back for another championship run next year. one less team to worry about anyways  :)

Yeah, I will be truly relieved when I'll learn that Thibodeau hasn't been hired by the Kings though.

Well that Guarantees them "contending" for the 8th spot for the next years to come, lol.

We need Thibodeau if we want the championship level defense we had back.

Though I do want him to stay with the celtics, I can't believe Philly just hired Jordan over him.  This guy has been possibly the best assistant in the league the last 2 years, he deserves a shot.
do it

After seeing Roger Mason play for the Spurs i started to suspect E.Jordan's coaching ability. How can you not know or realize you had a good role player on your team.E.Jordan rarely used Mason when he was his coach. One of the keys for being a successful coach is knowing your players and their abilities...imo

Let's see I can hire a guy who's a defensive guru and one of the best assistants in the NBA or I can hire a retread who's never been overally sucessful,
Hum, yeah I'm going to go with the retread.

There's an underlying connection here, which probably goes a long way toward explaining why the Sixers picked E. Jordan over some other candidates.

Philly's GM, Ed Stefanski, was the GM of the Nets before Rod Thorn.  Eddie Jordan was the assistant coach under Byron Scott during the time when JKidd was leading them to the Conference Finals every year.  So the head of their front office has a prior relationship with the guy.  I have to think that played a major part in his selection.

You know what's funny though - nets.com still has Stefanski listed as the Nets' GM.  Wow.  Talk about lacking attention to detail.  Jeez.  No wonder why they can't sell any tickets.

The players play and the coaches coach. No coach can win without good players. Everyone on this board hated Doc when he had no players. Now, for the most part, everyone loves Doc. You give any idiot a great lineup and he'll win a lot of games--look at The Zen Master. So I could care less if Thibodeau leaves. As long as we have a winning team, we'll win games. So if Thibodeau gets hired by another team I'll be happy for him. By all accounts, he seems like a nice guy and a man who loves the game. But we'll be fine without him.

I would like to see Rivers kicked upstairs and Thibodeau hired as the Celtics head coach.
