Rondo's my favorite N.B.A. player so I wouldn't do this, but if you support this trade idea (because you're not a big Rondo fan) then please be brave enough to say so, or that you might consider it.
Trade ID #5091021

-Clippers get Mike Conley, Rudy Gay, Scal and 25th pick (Darren Collison), and 35th pick (Danny Green)
-Grizzlies get Rondo, Ray Allen, Blake Griffin, Pruitt and Billy Walker
-Celtics get Baron Davis, O.J. Mayo, 2cnd pick (Rubio), and Milicic

Imo Memphis can't turn this down
Clippers would have to be insane enough
Celts might have to consider if Rondo's got issues with team or coach.

Celtics Roster

Baron Davis, Rubio, House
O.J. Mayo, House, Giddens
Pierce, Kleiza, Mayo, Giddens
Garnett, McDyess, Big Baby, Kleiza, Powe
Perk, Milicic

This looks like a terrible trade for Memphis IMO.  I think Gay and Mayo have a brighter future than Griffin, and probably Rondo.  And they have very little use for Allen, as they are still going to be a rebuilding team after this trade, and would likely just let his contract expire.

And I REALLY doubt the Clippers would be able to get Mike Conley, Rudy Gay, and two picks, for the right to get rid of the Baron Davis contract, which they don't want anyways.

I guess we disagree on a few things.  The Grizzlies backcourt would immediately go from being highly inexperienced to being one of the most veteran and saavy.  Rondo is a veteran wiser than most veterans and Allen is Allen, and he's expiring.

And Gay is still mighty young.  I think Griffin will very quickly establish himself, and be of more value than Gay.

Now I see what you're saying about Ray Allen.  Well, not so sure they wouldn't resign him as he's a great fit with Rondo.  I would hope the Celtics would outbid them, however, in resigning him, to be our sniper off the bench until he retires.

Since you feel the Clippers get the better, you could return pick 27 and pick 35 to Memphis.

Screwed up the Celtics' roster.  Milicic would be there as backup center, so then sign Mcdyess instead of Pachulia.

Just a final fleshing out of where I differ from Chris on this trade and then I'll shut up.

I think Rondo's going to be a hall of famer and I think Mayo is more likely to have a good to great Michael Redd type career.  Might be wrong about that comparison by I'd certainly take Rondo over Michael Redd.  Rudy Gay will also have a very nice career but how much defense is there compared to a guy like Blake Griffin.  In the end, I don't do this deal because I don't know if Rubio would ever be good enough to replace Rondo.  So, too much of a gamble from the Celtics point of view, also considering next season's chemistry.  But if I had a crystal ball and knew that Rubio would be a star, I might have to do the deal and hope that Baron Davis and O.J. Mayo can help Pierce, Garnett and Perkins to a title.

So, I do it if I'm Memphis and don't if I'm Celtics.  I do think it's a trade that can't be immediately dismissed from any of the three teams perspectives (except maybe Celtics because of chemistry danger!)

The Clippers don't get enough back in this trade. They give up a very good point guard and a future franchise player for Gay. Gay has shown to be nothing more than being a potential third or fourth banana on a good team. But the trade is great for both the Celtics and the Grizzlies.

Interesting.  I tend to agree with you, which is why I threw the Grizzlies late first rounder and early 2cnd rounder to the Clippers.

The Clippers might look like:

Conley, Collison
Gordon, Danny Green
Gay, Ricky Davis
Thornton, Zach Randolph
Kaman,Camby, DeAndre Jordan

I guess I don't know enough about Gay to strongly agree or disagree with you, but I lean towards thinking that Griffin will be a player of much greater impact.

As far as giving up a good point guard in Baron Davis, I've been led to believe they'd love to do this and would even possibly give up the #1 pick in the right deal if they can get out of his and especially Zach Randolph's contract.

I like the "banana" talk that's shown up on the blog today.  I hope it sticks.

I have to complement the original poster of this thread for thinking outside the box on this one. Surely, not too many bloggers around here would trade out Rondo for anything less than CP3 caliber. From the Celtics perspective, they become a structured half-court team with Baron Davis at the PG who surely would be rejuvenated. Milicic is a solid (if somewhat overpaid) backup center who really has not broken out. He might be an upgrade over Glen Davis because he has length. OJ Mayo could be a big time player - actually he is expected to be.

Rick Rubio is the fascinating prospect here...... Is he the Rondo replacement or is he another Ernie DiGregorio (for those of you oldtimers who followed basketball back in the 1970's)? Brilliant offense - no defense. http://www.nbadraft.net/players/ricky-rubio

Very creative well thought out trade - and one that Memphis would certainly benefit from. Clippers get some more young talent and a shot to lose 70 games next year.

Wins are few, times are hard. Here is your bleeping St Patricks Day Card.
