How about a R Allen for T Chandler & J Posey?
Hate to lose a class guy and great shooter, but Chandler and Pose would bolster our front line.  Tyson and Perk would make a great tandem at center, and Pose brings back that long SF that can guard the LeBrons, while replacing some of Ray's 3pt shooting!
If you wanted, you could expand the trade to get A Daniels for backup PG!   ??????????
Again with Posey?
Danny didn't want to offer that contract in the first place, why would he want it now?

Also, and most importantly, who's your starting shooting guard with Ray gone and no viable back up to promote from the bench nor one obtained in the trade?  Chandler makes too much money to be a backup up also.

I believe if Danny had been able to see the future he would have signed JP in a heartbeat!! He knows our system, and seemed happy here, but for the money.

I think Tyson, Perk, and KG would make a perfect big 3 rotation at C/PF, allowing them to always be fresh and effective!

Doing this trade wouldn't mean the end of our moves, and getting another 2/3 scorer who could defend would still be a priority.  PP could still be moved to the 2, which he has done on many occasions in his career!

I don't disagree Chandler would make a very potent 3-man PF-C rotation with KG and Perk (provided Chandler is healthy) but I'd feel much better about this trade is the SG piece was addressed in some manner rather than hoping to sign a FA (or rely on Walker/Giddens/TA) to fill that gap now.

I've been thinking about this for a while, and although it's unrealistic that they would ever trade Chris Paul, it is something to think about. I understand the love everyone has for Posey (winning the title, great defense, clutch 3's, etc), but right now, with that contract, he is definitely a negative asset. I'd also say that Peja and Morris Peterson are in the same catagory. Chandler is probably worth his contract right now, so I'd say he is fairly easy to move.

So, what it comes down to is New Orleans has to slash salary and they can do it by (1)having Chris Paul, West, and a bunch of overpaid roleplayers(miss playoffs/addt'l money stream) or (2) Trade Paul and all negative value players and still be competitive.

The trade machine isn't updated yet, but I believe the following trade works:

New Orleans Receives: Rajon Rondo, Ray Allen, Tony Allen, Eddie House, Gabe Pruitt and 2 first rounders

Boston Receives: Paul, Posey, and Peterson

This would allow NO to get two bad contracts off the books, pickup Rondo who gives them 80% of Paul's production, and would allow them to be competitive next year and in the future.

Boston would have the foundation of their future in Paul as well as a fan favorite back. They could then use the MLE to bring in one of the bigger names that wants to re-enter the market next year (Odom, Marion, Iverson, Artest, Wallace) or just sign a solid player long term like Anthony Parker. Then round out the roster (Barnes, McDyess, Joe Smith, Grant Hill, Quinton Ross, etc). This would basically keep us around $80M in salary also.

Paul/Marbury/Giddons
Parker?/Ross?/Peterson
Pierce/Posey/Walker
Garnett/Powe/Scal
Perkins/McDyess?

New Orleans would run out Rondo/Allen/Peja/West/Chandler, which is still a contender. They could dump Chandler easily by sending to Cleveland for Wallace. That'd leave Peja as the only overpaid guy. After the season, they'd extend Rondo and either re-sign Allen to a more cap friendly deal or get someone on the MLE. Financial problems solved.

paul hasn't been able to cover 2's on a nightly bases for some time now, he's not exactly quick of foot. When he was younger he could play the 2, but certainly not now.

Yes, he can focus in for a playoff series if the opposing teams best player is their 2 (ala kobe, who is pretty much a 3 body type wise anyway) but over the course of a season, you do not want paul playing against faster, smaller players every night.

so eddie house or JR giddeons is your starting SG?

You don't think Ben Wallace is overpaid

What I meant was overpaid beyond this coming season... Wallace would expire or even be bought out for less than his 14M salary. I believe Peja has three years left, which is liveable if they aren't paying Paul/Chandler/MoPete/Posey long term.
