I haven't seen his name come up too much, but what about Jarrett Jack?  He is a restricted FA this year, and I have heard mixed things about whether he is in the Pacers future plans (they are reportedly looking for PG's in the draft this year, and already have Ford).

I know he doesn't play the biggest position of need, but he wouldn't be a bad player to take a look at.  He would give us a very good backup PG, and he also could be very good playing next to House, since he is big, and a good defender.  He should be able to cover most backup SG's in the league...and could be valuable covering guys like Delonte West and Courtney Lee, who will likely be standing in the C's way to another championship.

Now, the big question is the price.  It may take something close to the MLE for the Pacers not to match an offer to him, but they could concievably be a good match for a sign and trade.  If the C's are not looking to keep Big Baby, he may the the type of player they would like to add to their team.

While Davis is not a great athlete, he is a very fundamentally sound defensive player, who I think would excel in Jim O'Brien's defensive system (which is of course very similar to the C's system).  He also has an offensive game, which may fit in well with the rest of their lineup.

So what might be worth looking at would be signing and trading Davis for a signed Jack.  And if we want to get really creative, we could make this deal bigger, including some of the expiring contracts the C's have for either someone like Foster,  or maybe even a Mike Dunleavy.

Too much money, not enough talent. I don't want to see the C's offer him a big contract. If they were able to get him for $2mil or so, I'd be delighted but that isn't happening. Too much money for my interest level.

I think Larry Bird will resign Jack to a sizable contract. He loves his leadership in the locker room.

Jack was one of the players that disappointed me more last season. I watched a bunch of Pacers games, like dozens of them, had the chance of following him closely and I realized I was quite wrong about Jack. Especially in regards to his defence: I used to think he was a solid, even if unspectacular defender, but he's actually very bad, especially defending point-guards. He's extremely slow, very limited recovering and catching up. Once the opponent pg beats him, he has all the time in the world to figure out what to do. He's better defending SGs, but no big shakes either. He's very beatable off the bounce, he doesn't move his feet well. In fact, Jack is a better offensive player than defensive; and he's very far from being a stalwart.

If I were Bird, I'd actually look for a deal like this or just let him go and draft another guard to share backup duties with Diener.

i agree that Jack has regressed a bit since Portland, a sign and trade MLE deal I think would be way too much, but if we could somehow land him for cheap I wouldnt have a problem with it.

I AM However a HUGE HUGE fan of us landing Jeff Foster.  I know they value his leadership a lot there, but Im wondering how hard it would be to pry him away from Indy.

Jeff Foster would be a nice fit, but unfortunately I don't see how can we acquire him.

I think we need to stay away from Restricted Free Agents, and focus on Unrestricteds and trades.
