Who will be this year's Childress? I think with the economy the way it is and with Childress having a good experience, and the salary cap shrinking there will be more and more players thinking "I'm too good for the MLE, but that's all they're offering" which is exactly what Childress was thinking

I'm looking in the direction of

BBD
Sheed (says he wants 8mill. Childress got 7ish I think)

and I have no idea who else

Ariza?

Grant Hill?

BBD won't be going to Europe.

I don't think Ariza will either, he'll get a ton of interest here. Grant Hill and Sheed could, but I don't think either would want to.

Remember the main reason Childress went to Europe is that because he was a restricted FA he pretty much could only deal with Atlanta.

  • You ain't the boss of the freakin' bedclothes.
None of the really good players, except maybe Marbury, but I still think Steph is a year at least away from that.

Think Earl Boykins types that can't quite fit into a scheme..

Actually BBD makes a lot of sense there, but he's not goin anywhere.

You think BBD would translate well to European ball?

Europe's economy is even more in the tank than ours, my guess is that there isn't going to be any big money deals a-la Childress.

Ba-ZING!

Yeah I think BBD could play...I also think the culture would suffocate him.

This is true but there is still money there. For example a lot of teams in Russia are owned by billionaires that don't worry about losing money

Marbury and Iverson would be two prime candidates in my eyes.

Good likelihood that neither player is offered the money, or the role, they deem themselves worthy of. Going to Europe to be the star of the show, and on a good contract, that'll be an attractive situation for them.

There's still money out there, but I think alot of those teams owned by billionaries in Russia have to be feeling the pinch, I was kinda suprized to read this from bloomberg:

Moscow had 74 billionaires a year ago, more than any other city in the world. Now it has 27, according to Forbes magazine. The 25 richest Russians lost a combined $230 billion during six months last year as the value of their companies plunged along with commodity prices, according to Bloomberg calculations

Almost makes me happy I didn't have any money to lose over the last year. Almost.

Yep.  Smart money's on those two.  Didn't Marbury even say Italy looked attractive?

Also, it seems as if Childress will be heading back. Not a great endorsement for going overseas. The (reported) flares at the bench just weren't cutting it for Josh.

Josh Childress, on his Twitter feed: "Not sure where this rumor and these quotes on si.com and espn.com came from. I never said any of that stuff!"

I would say nobody, but names like Marbury and Iverson make sense - although I'm not sure who would hire them. Well, except Nick Calathes. Salaries for basketball players are rumoured to go down 15%/20% this year. The biggest reason is that most Russian clubs, that were driving the salaries up, are very close to bankruptcy. Except CSKA - and even them are going to cut the budget for the next season - every other is struggling financially. Plus, most European clubs are now aware that the "NBA pedigree" is overrated. The failure of signings like Pargo, Arroyo, even Childress were the last nail in the coffin.
