Let me first say that I saw this kid play in person on multiple occasions with the Fayetteville Patriots about 4 years ago when I was driving down to see the great Gerald Green:-)))

We are looking for a back up for PP and this kid could be it.  Yes, he is a work in progress, but with the right coaching, he could not only be a good back up, but a future starter IMHO.  The Pistons are looking to unload money for 2010 when he is due 3.66 million.  A trade of Scals for Amir works and give the Pistons the cap relief they are looking for at the end of next year.  I believe that we could trade TA after July 1 for him as well.

Thoughts????

This kid can play.  I just think that he has NOT gotten good coaching in Detroit.

Uh, Amir is a power forward how will he back up Pierce?

Not only that but he's still very raw with little BBIQ and defensive fundamentals. He fouls at a very high rate and frequently screws up rotations. I'd love to have him on our bench as a 10th - 12th man. He's a young kid who's still cheap. The Pistons aren't going to give him up for Scal.

I'd be very happy to have Amir and the 15th pick (to take Chase B), but not to back up PP. The guy's a 4.

Quick question. Can Eddie be traded before he picks up (or doesn't) his option? I think the answer is no. But if it's 'yes' we could pull this off to offer Detroit cap room, Eddie turns down the option then signs back with the Cs for another 1 + 1 deal.

I don't care who Detroit signs with the cap room, i really don't.

I really thought Johnson was going to blossom like 2 years ago.  It still hasn't happened so I'm beginning to wonder.  The guy definitely has talent and he'd be worth rolling the dice on.

Someone else brought this up in another thread, how the Pistons may be looking to move Amir and their first rounder.

I think the Pistons will be using both those chips in a deal to land a big name in a trade. Amare or Bosh, or perhaps David Lee or one of Utah's bigs.

OK, Amir is listed at 6' 9" and 210 lbs.  How the heck is he PF size?  210 pounds??  Are you kidding me?  Just because the disaster of a team called the Pistons played him there does NOT mean that is his best position!!  How many of you have seen him play multiple times in person?

Amir as a backup to KG and tutored by Clifford Ray, Kendrick, and the Ticket. That is a possibility. I was always impressed with his energy coming off the Detriot bench. He might be an upgrade to BBD even. That said, we need proven veterans like Rasheed Wallace or Antonio McDyess to get us back to the promised land of the 2010 18th banner. We cannot afford to consume valuable roster space with poor man's Mikki Moore.

Because he has a bad handle on the ball. He's not a good dribbler and doesn't have a good pull up shot. Nor does have have good range. So he can't play the three effectively on offense.

Defensively he isn't quick enough to defend the SF position either. He's a PF.

He's now around 7 feet and more like 225. Have you seen him play? Think a young Camby who needs Cliff Ray.

Or they could use chips in a S&T with any of those RFAs' original team.

The rumor, which I believe was started by Chad Ford was that the Pistons want to get to around $25 million under the cap, so they can make a run at two of the top FA's (Like Boozer, and Gordon).  Currently, they are about 19 million under (including the cap hold for their pick).  If they trade away their first round pick, and Amir Johnson, it would put them at about $24 million. 

For Ford's theory, they would need to be trading away these two assets, but not taking salary back this year.  Which means it would need to be with a team under the cap, or with a trade exception.  That's not the C's.

What I think is more likely, if Ford is right that they want to get more cap space is that they try to use the #15 pick to get a team under the cap or with a trade exception to take on Kwame Brown's contract.

I haven't seen Amir in several years in person.  I just know that nba.com CURRENTLY lists him at 6' 9" and 210.  I strongly believe that we lose Big Baby and he could help replace him.  Scals played above his head in the playoffs and is one more concussion from being out of the league forever.

Your take is NOT my take on the Chad Ford rumor.  I think that they want to get under the cap by 25 million so that they can be players to pick up one starter FA this year and then another in 2010.  I do NOT think that they want to and expect to sign two marquee FA's this year.

Me too -- I thought he learned a lot of bad habits down in the D-League. His moves just didn't work against superior defenders/athletes and it slowly worked away his confidence offensively.

I'd like to see some team like Memphis take him on. Give him 35 minutes a night and let him average a double double. Build up his confidence and comfort level that way. I don't think he's going to be a star anymore, but he could be one of those highly efficient double double guys who also play great defense if he harnesses his talent.

I absolutely love the idea of Amir Johnson working with Clifford Ray. Amir is a hard worker and very coachable ... getting to work with Ray, that could be a career-making situation for Amir.

I don't see we acquire Amir Johnson. He's an expiring contract next season anyway, so the C's expiring deals won't have any value for Detroit. A team below the cap could offer value.

I suppose they could give up a future first rounder. That would do it.
