I am not sure how many of you heard Danny Ainge on WEEI radio yesterday.

Big O and gang asked him many pertinent questions. Did he have any hope that KG would have played had the Celts continued to advance. He said that he had hope that he might be able to play at some point but was not counting on it. He said that it was up to KG and how he felt. He said the knee has no structural damage. They asked him if he would "do-over" the way he had handled the KG injury and just say that KG was out, but he said that they always had hope that he might be able to play at some point.

He was asked if he thought KG and all of the injured players would be back by the beginning of next season. He said yes. He said that he was somewhat worried about Perk's shoulder but he said that he thought they all would be ready by the start of next season. (I am not sure if Powe was included in that question/answer).

They asked about the loss of Posey and the inability to replace his attributes. He said that Tony was hurt for 2 months coming into the playoffs and Doc just didn't have the confidence to play him. He said that there isn't always enough minutes to play everybody. He mentioned Scal playing well and the fact that Big Baby made so much improvement. He said that Mikey Moore just didn't pick up their defensive system as they had hoped that he would. They asked about Stephon. He said that Marbury played the best defense that he had ever played in his career but that he was never really able to get his rythmn on offense. He said that he and Toney did not play well in 4 minute spurts. They both needed more playing time to be successful. He said that they were interested in bringing back Marbury if he could help the team the way that they need him to play but he might be better off playing more minutes (IE as a starter somewhere else).

They asked him about Big Baby and was there a limit ($) to sign him. He said that there was a limit and they had to manage the salary cap and luxury tax. He said that they wanted to sign him but that they would look at many free agents as well as their own.

They asked him if he would watch the other series as a fan or what. He said that he would watch them with a pad of paper and keep tab on all the players still playing and pay attention to how each team goes about beating the other team.

He said that they would try to add to their front line. He said that all teams are trying to do this and that there just are not that many good veteran bigs out there that are willing to play for short money.

He probably said more but this what I remember. :)

I knew I shouldn't read this.

At some point, Danny's got to get it through his head that he needs to quit wasting money on Tony Allen and get him out of town.

What's he going to sign Robert Swift with?

Thanks for the info.

I'm glad to hear there's no structural damage to KG's knee. A little dissapointed in finding out that KG could've played if he wanted too. Hopefully Danny goes to work this offseason and fills in the holes by the start of 09/10 season.

thats quite a liberal misreading of that qoute, just because it was up to KG doesn't mean KG could play, it just means the injury wasn't one that would be further injured by playing.

That has nothing to do with if you CAN actually play on it or not.

this a little bit hard to decipher, but i feel even more confident that if we had gotten by ORL we would have been starting to hear the "KG is working out" reports and would have seen him at some point in the CLE series...

as for next season, let's see what Danny actually does. that will go along way in telling what his own assessment was of his moves to fill out the bench last off season.

Interesting listen, for those that want to, here's the link:

http://audio.weei.com/m/22332224/danny-ainge.htm

Other highlights:

- Powe will miss at least half the season.
- It was a mutual decision never to get the surgery during the season and only KG knew for sure if he could have played any more this season. Management never questioned KG's decision on the matter.
- Danny admits that Tony has to play longer minutes to be effective and so Doc didn't have confidence using Tony in short minute spurts.
- Danny knew Joe Smith would become available but they knew that Joe Smith had both familiarity on a business level and fondness on a personal level with Cleveland so they looked at it as being less than a 50-50 chance of getting him to come here given Cleveland could outbid them. So Mikki was all that was left.
- Danny said trading even the 58th pick and not picking in the draft was an option so that he could leave a roster spot open for a veteran.
- "quality big guys don't want to play for the minimum". Does that mean that that is the money slot Danny is looking to fill his big man need with? Thought that strange.
- Danny goes in depth about role players that can come in and have the confidence to produce and that Stephon Marbury doesn't fit that role and he implied Eddie already has that role. Sounded like that is the reason Doc must have made his comment about Marbury's uncertainty of returning.

We need a "shakes head sadly" emoticon.

Whatever would possess Danny to think that a low attention-span and intelligence player needs more minutes to be effective?

Smacks of "I'm not about to admit I was wrong."

It's over, Danny. You missed on Tony Allen. Twice. Now, get him out of town so we can spend that money on an intelligent basketball player.

I hope they re-sign Powe, we can survive half a season without him. The real question is, what veteran bigs are available right now??  ??? They should try to re-sign Marbury for a decent price as well, it relieved Eddie of having to dribble and shoot and just let him concentrate on shooting.
True Celtic = Leon Powe

Bring back the show!!!!

Doc is from Chicago. Maybe the T. Allen death threats are Doc's doing. He's trying everything to keep Tony off the floor. In fact when Tony blew out his knee, I heard Doc yelling, "Dunk it. Dunk it!" ;)

This is absurd. Tony Allen is good with big minutes. There's nothing to dispute about this. Tony Allen was playing well before injuries hit again.

If you want to call out Danny for rolling the dice with injury prone players fine, but Tony Allen clearly has enough talent to be in an NBA rotation.

But just not as a 4-5 minute only role player on a smart championship team. Trade him Charlotte or Minnesota and start him and he'd be very productive playing 30 MPG.

I just hate his game and think bringing him but was idiotic and maybe the biggest surprise for me in all of Danny's off season moves.

not as a SF.

one of the two problems i had with Danny's off season was counting on two players that have trouble managing their actual position to be able to move over to yet another position (ie Scals and TA being able take back up SF).

many people here are more about bizness...i feel and understand that..trade tony and get etc et

but tony was one of our best defenders vs kobe and la back in the day...during the regular and playoffs...u nor i can go out on the floor after sittin thru 3 to 4 games in a row and jus make it happen on both ends.

im far from that bizness side

im more on the loyalty side~take care of those that take care of u

tony got ability..walker got sumthin to prove..give them time to shine
