The Brian Shaw and Dominique Wilkins situations were different than Childress, as one was basically holding out and the other was aging and didnt want to go through a rebuilding process with the celtics (and he did go back to Europe later).

And Childress is signed for another 2 years (with opt out options for him), so I don't know if he gives that up. He turned down 33 million for 5 years with the Hawks because he got 20 million tax free for 3 years, so when you add in taxes and etc, you are talking about him making almost twice the MLE.

And Waltzero, as a restricted free agent, the hawks only have to extend a qualifying offer to keep his rights. I think the becomes a UFA next year, though.

I don't think Childress is worth anywhere near the MLE.

I rate Mo Evans as the better player ... Atlanta did well for themselves.

If in fact he becomes an unrestricted FA next Summer than I can see him staying one more yr in Greece, but I also see him entertaining offers this Summer from NBA teams.

Which is exactly my point: his situation is kind of unprecedented. Name any American NBA player in his prime that chose Europe over the NBA even for one season? Other than holdouts, over the hill players and 12th men, no one had chosen Europe over playing 30 minutes a night on a playoff team.

I'd contend that Childress was essentially a holdout. That story is wild with the riot. I know Greece is known for crazy fans, which was a reason I thought Childress would entertain returning to America.

Let's say pierce and Ray are restricted to 33 minutes each during the regular season. Childress plays the leftover 30 minutes. Everyone's happy and our all stars are rested and ready to take the crown back come 2010 playoffs.

At the moment (literaly) Childress is having possibly his best game in Europe in the first final.

I don`t think that Europe has affected his toughness (or the lack of it) but certainly didn`t improve his range (~34% 3p)

In 17 games he played (regualr season Green A1)

Hmm, he was good in the final quarter and that triple to end the drought almost changed the outcome of the game, but I  wasn't impressed - PAO tried to stop Papaloukas, Greer and Halperin and left Childress with plenty of space. I didn't like his defence on the Spanoulis pick'n'roll; in fact I'd say he did a better job when forced to defend the bigs because of that switching man-to-man defence Olympiacos was playing. Btw, the Olympiacos fans should have stopped to throw the laser beam into the free-throw shooters' eyes in that last minute, that probably cost them the game. Fair-play doesn't bring you wins. Intense game though, but I think PAO is winning this. Olympiacos doesn't seem to know how to fight Obradovic's defensive strategy and can't stop Pekovic inside without fouling.

So long as they make qualifying offers every year, they retain rights.

In the first play, Mourousis, Olympiacos best big, fouls out. He touches Diamantidis' hand but previously he's actually pushed by Pekovic - that's what causes the contact. PAO makes the FTs to tie the game and Olympiacos was never able to gain the lead back.

In the 2nd play (1:20 minutes), Papaloukas goes for the lay-up that could have sent the game to OT, but not only he's fouled (in his left forearm) but Panathinaikos player blatantly touches the net. The referees missed both calls when a single one of them could have changed the outcome of the game.

Maybe you're right about the first play, the foul on Mpourousis, but in the 2nd play you're totally wrong, cuz Papaloukas travels, it's 3 steps, no question about that! So I don't care if he's fouled afterwards or Panathinaikos' player touches the net or whatever, it's traveling violation and game's over!
Overall, Childress had a very good game but, if I had to say who played better in such a close game, I think Panathinaikos deserved that win!

I like him, hes a versitle player, and I dont think he'd be a bad player on this team.  However, I think there are players out there that can bring pretty much what he brings to the table defensively, and can hit a jump shot......for less money.

Are you sure you (and the other person who commented on his shooting) aren't confusing him with Josh Smith? Smith is the one who can't hit a jump shot.

Childress is a career 36% 3 pt shooter (not great, but not bad either, and just a notch below Pierce), and has a career TS% of 60.

You're right, that was a travel violation. In that case, make it 3 huge mistakes in the same play! Anyway, I think Saras was already fouling Papaloulas before the travel, notice his left hand in the greek guard back. I agree that PAO deserved the win.

You are reading too much into very specific stat that favors well for Josh Childress. I mean, why use the 3PT shot accuracy to assess his 3PT shooting?

Seriously now, I indeed believe that stat is a bit misleading in this case. How many outside shots does he make? One every four games? He isn't a good shooter (he's not terrible either, in spite of the ugly form); he has a very good shot selection, I'll give you that.

I agree with greg: he's a nice, versatile, mistaken-free player who isn't worth what he's asking. If he wants to sign for a Tony Allen like contract, then I like it.
